I just don't think he is physically strong enough. If you look at the top boys, there are muscled, ripped to death., with big ko records . BJS isn't a KO artist and it looks like you can do your weekend ironing on his chest.
Canelo would probably be too good for Saunders I suppose, but I think if he can reproduce his effort against David Lemieux, he might go ok. A fight against Canelo might be what he needs to bring the best out of him. But I'd hate to be trapped in a 20x20 foot ring with a mean Canelo Alvarez.
It's such a **** division. The fact that these two bums were in an elimator for a world title shot just sums up how poor a division it is. We also probably (hopefully) saw the last fight of Scott Quiggs career last night. At his best he wouldn't have had any trouble last night. It's time for him to walk away before he becomes a stepping stone for younger fighters
Agreed Quigg at his sharpest would have had few troubles last night. The writing has been on the wall for some time really and he’s never quite been the same after his loss to Frampton. He had an awful debut fight for Freddie Roach and it looked like a bit of the speed and movement had gone. Hope he has a happy and healthy retirement.
For anyone who has 37 spare minutes up their sleeve, they might find some interesting insights into the boxing scene, particularly in the second half of the clip.
I just watched the fight. I wish I hadn't as the pair of them were utterly dreadful. They looked like pair of drunks fighting at Liverpool docks.
Media outlets are saying Billy Joe Saunders has secured the Canelo fight on May 2. The reported payday for Saunders will be a career high 6,000,000 pounds.
Rumour time, and as such must be taken with a grain of salt. According to The Atlantic's Lance Pugmire, Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin have verbally agreed to money terms for a third bout. Due to Covid19, no time or venue has been made, but both parties want the fight later in the year. As things stand at the moment, Canelo is set to face Saunders in a unification bout which has been put back until June. But from what Pugmire is saying, there is a chance that the Canelo - Saunders fight be set aside for a September clash between Alvarez and Golovkin because the turnaround for Canelo is too short between the two bouts. But it could be just rumour. Why knows?
Live update; For the next month boxing will be allowed to continue behind closed doors. But corner men will not be allowed and only one person is to be allowed in the ring at any time. The winner will be announced from outside the ring; Judging will be via VAR The new rules have been criticised as unworkable and it is likely that any events scheduled to take place within the next month will be cancelled or postponed
As sport has been put on the back burner, what better time to take a look at two of the greats. 16-9-1981. WBA Welterweight Champion Thomas Hearns v WBC Welterweight Champion Sugar Ray Leonard.
Loved Tommy and still do. Appreciated SRL's brilliance but was never a fan. You only to have to hear them both now, sadly, to know who was the more defensive fighter.
Like you DB, I was a huge Hearns fan. And again like you, I could never quite take to Leonard or for that matter Mayweather, but they were seriously brilliant boxers. But you know that already.
Billy Joe Saunders has been at it again. Last week a video appeared online of him instructing people how to hit their wife/girlfriend/partner correctly if she gets too mouthy. Now he's had his boxing licence suspended. What a complete tool. He was in line to fight Canelo next in what would have been by far his most lucrative and prestigious fight to date
