day one of no hand shake that is farcical.. so through out the game they have to wear gloves and face masks and long johns ….
Bristol City have chosen today's game against Fulham as a special day to mark their 125th anniversary season. The Robins will be wearing a special one-off shirt, which contains sections from previous kits during the club's history. City ended a run of three straight defeats with a draw at Millwall last time out. What better day to end their winless run? FANTASTIC they are having an anniversary for 125 yrs but why 125? why not 120 or 130? just a Q?
Fulham light years better and City scrapped a draw. Our Keeper was outstanding and Reid on another day scores 3. I thought the City goal was from the Big Sam coaching manual. All in all it was an enjoyable watch, thankfully we didn't lose. Ps If we're paying Kalas £25k a week WTF are Fulham paying Cairney. Different Planet to the rest on view.
Report: Bristol City 1-1 Fulham A goal apiece in the second half earned City and Fulham a share of the spoils at Ashton Gate. Nahki Wells, who in the matchday programme has discussed his desire to find his goalscoring form, headed City in front with his second strike in Robins colours. It had Lee Johnson’s men on course to return to the top six and while Niki Mäenpää produced the goods to deny Bobby Decordova-Reid on his return to BS3, Tom Cairney’s effort with six minutes remaining drew the Cottagers level. The point left City in seventh, one ahead of Millwall and one behind Preston North End, who were due to kick-off at 3pm. Head Coach Johnson named two changes for the match, which was selected to celebrate the club’s 125th season, with Han-Noah Massengo and Wells in the starting XI ahead of Ádám Nagy and Famara Diédhiou. It meant an unchanged back five from the trip to Millwall a week earlier, with Mäenpää back between the sticks in the place of injured Dan Bentley. And City enjoyed a bright start with some energetic play and an air of enthusiasm about their game. It was the intense start that would have been asked for and they created the chances to match. A nice one touch and searching pass from Jay Dasilva found Callum O’Dowda whose cross picked out Wells but he couldn’t generate enough power on the header to trouble Marek Rodak. The Fulham keeper had little to really test him but shots on target followed from Andreas Weimann and Wells as the home side reminded the visitors of their intent. But when Nathan Baker was forced off through injury, Fulham started to get into the game a lot more and when Iva Cavaleiro found space down the left, his cross was perfect for the head of Bobby Decordova-Reid, but the ball sailed wide of the far post. Mäenpää was rooted to the spot for that one but produced a strong one-handed save to deny the former City Academy graduate soon after, and when the hosts failed to clear their lines, Harry Arter finished off a spell of pressure with a shot just wide of the far post. While Fulham’s keeper had a relatively quiet first half, he was alert to a fierce, deflected effort from Wells not long in the second period, while at the other end Reid’s search for a goal back on his old stomping ground continued when Mäenpää was equal to the striker’s angled effort. It had been an even affair and City looked to catch Fulham out on the counter. Weimann’s strong running forced a corner, which O’Dowda delivered. Initially it looked unlikely to cause trouble but a Fulham clearance was nodded into the path of Wells by Pedro Pereira, and the striker made no mistake with his close-range header. Mäenpää showed superb reactions to tip away Neeskens Kebano’s glancing header as City held on to their lead with the latter stages approaching. But with a little over five minutes remaining, Fulham forced the equaliser through Cairney. The midfield captain broke forward and found the bottom corner of the goal with a left-footed shot from outside the edge of the area. The late goal was enough to rescue the point for the visitors, while City now prepare themselves for a trip to Blackburn Rovers next Saturday (March 14th, 3pm KO). https://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/bristol-city-1-1-fulham/
I actually thought it was quite enjoyable. End to end stuff. Agree about Maenpaa, but honestly I can’t see the Light Years’ bit - they (Fulham) we’re turning the screw towards the end and I think if the game had lasted 10 more minutes we might have conceded, but for most of the game I thought it was more or less even.
With 10 games to go, Fulham can't afford too many more slip-ups if they're going to challenge West Bromwich Albion and Leeds for a top-two spot. Bristol City are down to eighth after Millwall's win at Nottingham Forest on Friday, two points behind sixth-placed Preston. Bristol City bring Nahki Wells and Han-Noah Massengo into their starting line-up. Famara Diedhiou and Adam Nagy make way. Fulham also make two changes - Cyrus Christie and Aboubakar Kamara, who is 25 today, come in for ex-City left-back Joe Bryan and Anthony Knockaert. Bristol City: Maenpaa, Pereira, Kalas, Baker, Dasilva, Paterson, Smith, Massengo, O'Dowda, Weimann, Wells. Fulham: Rodak, Odoi, Hector, Ream, Christie, Arter, Cairney, Decordova-Reid, Cavaleiro, Kamara, Mitrovic.
I don't think they were light years at all, baring in mind they've just come down from premiership..Messengo will be good but gives the ball away to easy. Thought their goal should have been disallowed as Wells fouled just before, but believe they should have had a pen, so evens itself out IMO.. Yes, thought Fulham were the better team but a draw I think a fair result..
At least we gave it a go, 14 shots in this game, twice as many as the last 4 games combined, so more positive. For me, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Massengo is not good enough to be anywhere near the first team. I just don’t see what he offers, he rarely wins a tackle, he can’t hold players off and loses the ball just about every time, and I cannot remember the last time he made a telling pass in the opposition half. Too much of a liability for me. I was glad to see Weimann back in the starting 11, his pace will always cause teams problems, without him, we have little pace offensively.
I think Massengo plays in a LJ role, looking to ping the ball about...think he does ok, but needs to think quicker..but will get there, he's young and learning and adapting to the speed of the championship
Absolutely this. Massengo flatters to deceive. Most definitely our weakest link today. IMHO of course.
(Make sure you’re sat down RP ) An LJ criticism from me; WHY take Pato off and leave Massengo on? Pato was doing ok. I would have subbed Massengo with Palmer. I agreed with Wells coming off but would have swapped him for Diedhiou and possibly Smith for Elliasson (not a criticism of those players btw - just trying to think how to include Diedhiou and Elliasson.
No, sorry - I was mainly challenging the Pato substitution. Obviously I was please with the goal but until he scored he wasn’t doing much. Hindsight is brilliant
Much better performance today, quite a good game to watch compared the the dross we’ve had to sit through at home this season, decent point to be fair and seeing as Preston just lost to QPR we’re only a point off top 6.
