Not under Bruce according to Rafa's Ball Massaging Army. We're actually championship or league one and he's just been lucky.

As a follower of Portsmouth I can confirm you're not League 1 level <ok>

You're close to being a Championship team for sure but I think you'll stay up.

Every team gets lucky and unlucky from time to time.

The last decent Newcastle team I can think of was when you had Tiote, Cisse and Demba Ba.

Cabaye, Ben Arfa, Cisse, Ba, Coloccini, Tiote etc, team that finished 5th.

But what happened after we finished 5th?no further investment in the side despite the fact we would be playing far more games the next season with the europa league, result that our knackered team just about manages to stay up the next season. Then straight afterwards our best player and centrepiece of the team (Yohan Cabaye) is sold, and we're back to just managing to stay up again.

The lesson? Ashley doesn't want us to do well and finish 5th again cos he'll have to put the money in if we do, we wants us to just stay up so he gets the TV money and a **** tonne of free advertising for Sports Direct. The 5th place was a one off fluke that's extremely unlikely to happen again.

<laugh><laugh><laugh> That is the best attempt at Rafa Massaging I've ever come across. What sort of clownery is going on here.

7th? No he inherited a squad which finished 13th end of story. He actually made us worse than the year before if you were being strict. So looking at the trend under Rafa you could argue that as long as Bruce finishes 16th or above, he'd be in keeping with the trend Rafa was on. I won't be that harsh though. Instead I'll keep it simple. After 38 games we will be able to judge how Bruce has performed in relation to his predecessor. 13th is the position he has to beat. In terms of entertainment, that's a subjective thing so you'll struggle to get to the bottom of that. However league positions have always been very clearcut. I mean you get the desperados who then clutch at points totals. But if that was the case then maybe we should have given Liverpool a PL trophy for last year, because with those points they'd normally have won it <doh>

The desperate transfer diatribe has already been successfully shot down in flames several times so its not worth going over old ground.

Imagine if Bruce keeps this lot up. You will have so much Rafa egg on your face you'll eating scrambled eggs for breakie, scotch eggs for lunch, and an omelette for your tea. All with a side of chorizo.

not really because he didnt inherit the team before we had signed almiron, so you cannot use he inherited a side that no longer existed.

rafa left a side outperforming everyone outside the top 6 ... that is a fact..

bruce has been backed with 6 signings and we are worse.

its also very important to take into consideration rafa built that side he didnt inherit a team that finished 10th and 13th.

the fact is rafa is a better manager plain and simple, but we're stuck with this dung beetle and if he keeps us up great.. the real problem is the owner as we both know.

Agreed.

He's just riding the club for as much as he possibly can.

Its a shame really.

He really is a leach.

Just out of interest what is your view on Harry Redknapp?

Do you think he's great cos he won the FA Cup, or a crook who bankrupted the club with his dodgy dealings?

The fans are mixed on this.

Some say water under the bridge and they were good times with a good team - others despise him.

I think that if the owners were any good they'd have controlled the spending - he'll spend it if he's given it - if its not available he won't.

He is a likeable character for sure but he is dodgy!

tonights game should enlighten the few that still haven't realised how bad we are...

Both managers had extended periods of ups and downs. Rafa tended to be a little more consistent, crap at the start of the season, a good mid-late season and then so so at the end.
Bruce had a poor start, then a good spell, and now back to crap again.
My worry is that we seem more capable of leaking goals than under Rafa and we don't seem to be able to score one for love nor money.
Still a couple of wins and a draw and we are probably safe.

End of season, 38 games is all that counts. They've worked under the same regime etc. No fudging. One thing we already know is the myth about Rfa has been well and truly exploded this season. Bruce is gash and he is matching up nicely.

Well we are above West Brom and by some margin (save for the managerial intervention which nearly ****ed us)
