You really don't watch much football do you, you really should it's quite interesting when you get into it
I'm normally out on Thursday nights, so I'll have to take your word on your brand of 'interesting' football.
when Matip got injured he was replaced by Lovren until he also picked up an injury. At that stage Gomez appeared to be 4th choice .
Right - enough defence talk. Let’s talk about the rest of the team. Did any of the front 3 have a shot on goal? Watford really blunted our attacking threat. The front didn’t create anything or have shots on target. Really lacklustre. Gini continues to not contribute much going forward, Ox is still rusty and Fab is really not up to speed. Fab used to create a lot through his exceptional passing but we haven’t seen since he was injured. Whilst we have been in amazing form, once chink in our armour is the ability to create through the middle - which is becoming more important as teams are now putting men on our full backs.
Pearson got his tactics right. As well as pressurising the full backs, the two rows of defenders left very little space for forwards to move in. As soon as the ball arrived to our forwards, their defence was on them allowing no room to turn. Athletico are very good as this too. We know what to expect at Anfield. When you have a very fast striker like they had, playing on the break is always a danger. That said, poor defending was what was our undoing and a very good performance from them
Credit to Watford. They really did a number on us. They troubled our defence, and stifled our attack. Even if Matip/Gomez/Hendo played, we may have scraped a 1-0, 0-0. That’s how poor we were. But we got ultimately got what we deserved.
I think yesterday will end up being something of a blessing really, Klopp said the same himself. The pressure of going unbeaten had to be on the players, even if they don't talk like that amongst themselves they all knew what was at stake. It was pressure from themselves, the media and pundits, and of course fans, both Liverpool fans and none-Liverpool fans. I think now that we've lost it will allow us to return to playing football more like our normal selves and free up the team, rather than trying to achieve invincible status and chase a record by not losing, it seemed like we were being stifled by the weight of it
it ain't "my world" it is just how logic works .We have 4 CB's and he was the 4th to be selected for a run in the team this season .
They both have issues, lovrens is obvious to see, he panics alot, which leads to a **** up. Matip is weak as well, his biggest issue is getting caught out of position or wandering round aimlessly. Harder to spot but just as culpable when it leads to a goal.
Don't disagree generally, just think it's a bit arrogant and sort sighted to ignore how well Matip was playing before injury. There is a reason Gomez had to wait so long before getting back in the side, Matip was that reason. Im convinced Lovren gets odd appearances here and theyre to keep him happy. He's a big influence in the dressing room.
