I'm quite a fan of the spring and autumn double bets - probably because of their almost impossible difficulty to land (even e/way!!). So in honour of this rich tradition I propose a simple competition where you have a fictional 100 quid to place on the autumn double (win or e/w) and the winner is the one with the highest returns. The Cambridgeshire this Saturday followed by the Cesarewitch 2 weeks later. All selections must be in before the off of the Cambridgeshire as this is a true "double" bet. Best of luck
Oddy - Is that for just one horse in both, so its a £50 e/w double or is it that you carry over the bet for the first race win or lose, then what you have left goes on the Cesarewitch...?? Sounds good which ever way you do it...
red just the one horse in each race mate - so either 100 win double or 50/ew double. I know there are 2 ways of working out an e/w double - if someone can refresh my memory as to what they are I'm sure both will be allowed. I think it's something along the lines of either 1) 50 E/W double = 50 win double + 50 place double or 2) 50 E/W double = winnings from first race split evenly across win and place bet for second race Only stipulation is you nominate both horses, and bet type, before the Cambridgeshire start on Saturday
Right... i was just thinking that its such a tough race to get a placed horse that you might say do 2 horses for each race. But then obviously it would then have to be a £25 e/w double... Its a hard call to do just one... Thats where my train of thought was coming from... Cheers anyway i shall be having a look at this, looks a good challenge... Ta...
Multiple combinations would be allowed mate, as long as the 100 stake isn't exceeded - so you could go for 5x 10E/W doubles for example Just that each double has to be 1 horse per race and nominated before the Cambridgeshire. I'd better consult Ron for a set of official rules and regs ..................
It's your comp Oddy. You set the rules. I can ask a few questions though. 1. Is it NR No Bet? 2. Do we take available odds or is it SP? 3. What are the place rules for ew bets? Good idea.
OddDog, let's have a go, even though it's nigh impossible to get both winners! My old man tried for years and then just gave up. The Cambridgeshire isn't as hard to win as it used to be- a three year old had to be something special to win with more than 8st 7lbs on his/her back. I'd be interested in knowing which horses people rate as the best winners of the Autumn Double. From memory, here's mine... Cambridgeshire. 1. Hidden Meaning 2. Halling 3. Prince De Galles. Cesarewitch. 1. Grey Of Falloden. 2. Vintage Crop. 3. John Cherry
Just decided I am being unnecessarily stringent here. So, 1st leg of the double on Saturday, The Cambridgeshire, selections FOR THAT RACE ONLY in before the off please. Remember 100 quid to bet however you want and obviously the aim is to have something to carry forward to the second leg in 2 weeks time. If you have anything to carry over to leg 2 you can make selection for the Cesarewitch right up until the off of that race.
Ron: 1. NR no bet but see my previous post - I think we can wait with the Cesarewitch selections until the final decs. 2. You can specify odds when placing the bet but I won't be checking so it's a trust thing 3. Place rules will be 1/4 odds 1,2,3,4
Autumn Double £50.00 Each Way Double Cambridgeshire. Pendragon @ 40/1 (Ladbrokes) Cesarewitch Donna's Palm @ 18/1 (corals) Cheers, Oddy.
Oddy: I don't think you are being too stringent, as if we were actually doing the EW double we would not be able to wait for the decs However as Ron quite rightly says it IS your Competition mate. £25 EW double X 2 Proponent 20s Cambs Albaquaa 33s Cambs with Veiled 11s in the Cesar
absolutely bjmbubbles - the more the merrier Gary I guess that's true if you were offered a special price for the double, as opposed to the accumulated odds of the 2 horses? Not sure if the bookies offer that though? Main thing is to try and pick the winner of both races (or at least placers)
Right Oddy ive made my mind up and im sticking to it now... With that many runners its easy to start thinking what if about the others rather than yours. So... Cambridgeshire... Abbaqaa @ 25/1 Cesarewitch... Cosmo De Medici @ 16/1 In a straight £50 e/w double... Cheers Oddy...
The Autumn Double was my very first ante-post bet as a 17 year old yoof. I know one horse was named Fair Astronomer - can't remember the other, but neither were placed! And I got a bollocking from my old man when William Hills coresspondence came through the letterbox. He was dead against gambling, and I never bet antepost again until I left home! I'll have a stab at this tonight Oddy - Cambridgshire only to start - cheers
Cambridgeshire Dare To Dance Man Of Action Cesarewich Cosimo de Medici Veiled 4 x £12.50ew all in doubles
Anyone who believes in coincidences might want to have a punt on a trainer winning the Autumn Double. The last trainer to achieve this was Sam Darling in 1925. His Cambridgeshire winner was called Masked Marvel - of course the latter-day Masked Marvel has just won the Leger. You never know - stranger things have happened!
Nanton 40/1 cambs Maali 50/1 cambs Now you have tweeked the rules i take it i can have £25e/w on both these and am then either out or can play the Ces' with any winnings? Cheers oddy
