Apparently it's being sat on. The official line is that it's waiting until the reforming of the select committee. No doubt an excuse will be found to kick it further into the long grass. Putin rules!
I am of the opinion with Boris that if he is given enough rope he will hang himself. The Mirror was reporting yesterday that the Tory candidates in the so-called "Red Wall" constituencies had their campaigns financed to quite a substantial tune by business from other parts of the country. Something is bound to come out that rules have been broken. This will just be for starters. I do not feel that the tide will necessarily change until 2021 when the ties with Europe will become considerably loosened. The EU hold the upper hand albeit I actually think that Brexit has weakened their position and am curious exactly how this might work out for politicians such as Macron who have become increasingly isolated in their home countries. We have seen the same happen to Varadker in Ireland, despite the fact that he was probably the one politician who came out of the Brexit process with the greatest amount of dignity. The EU will have been undermined by Brexit and I think it will ultimately be to the detriment of all parties. However, when foreign investment starts pulling out of the UK, those parts of the country likely to be affected will be precisely the same ones who voted for Brexit. Therefore, I would suggest that the next election will see the "Red wall" constituencies rue their decision and return Labour politicians in the next election. I would anticipate a massive swing towards the opposition parties in the next election and I would be surprised if this current government actually survives a full term. The Labour Party needs to get behind Rebecca Long-Bailey and ensure she becomes their next leader. I am surprised that she has not attracted much media attention as she is the best candidate by a long chalk. I think the gloss will wear off Boris pretty quickly once the impact of tory policies starts to manifest itself in communities and I am wondering if the same is going to happen in Scotland now that the performance of the SNP in government there is now really the same issues with their policies with austerity and a disastrous record with achieving targets in education and the health service. Brexit did for Corbyn (along with the BBC!) but I think that with this no longer being an issue, there will be a swing towards support for Labour. The tide is going to turn very rapidly against Boris.
I certainly hope so Ian. As soon as the torie suits see a loss of popularity and voters the knives will be out. Unfortunately with the huge majority I can't see an early election. Change of leader possibly it's a wait and see situation.
Probably waiting on Russia to go over it and amend it before Boris can release it. I believe thats current government rules.
Saw a comment from a Tory mp, in defence of the ball they held in which they were bought by collecting bribes funds from wealthy backers. Something like if we don’t do this we would have to fund election campaigns from taxpayers money and Labour are in the pockets of the unions. I don’t think there was any irony meant by the unions dig.
Rebecca Long Bailey is possibly the best choice to ensure a major realignment in British politics. I'm coming round to the view that Starmer would be hobbled by the Corbynites remaining in positions of power and that maybe it would be better if we had a hard left leadership. I am sure that the majority of Tories would agree.
Strewth I’m no lover of BJ but come on guys all parties are financed by some wealthy git or other even your beloved Labour Party. The people voted them in and most disagreed with most of you. I’ve no idea if they’ve got it right or not but we’ll have to see. Seeing evil in every move made by the Tory party is quite frankly nonsense. Until proved otherwise naturally but if you don’t give something a chance or keep fighting it because you don’t like it will not help imo.
Well I sort of see your point. Let’s give Boris a chance. He’ll **** it up though mate, I would put my house on that. As a Londoner, I have given that fool the benefit of the doubt once, only to see him fail as Mayor on every count. This government is a guaranteed catastrophe; the only question is, for who?
The huge majority was down to the antiquated FPTP system Beds. Interesting to note that there were more votes for remain candidates than leave I think it's known as the popular vote. Can't be arsed to do the research and quote/link to the numbers. The Johnson's previous on lies and deceit plus the brexit negotiations stance along with criticism of immigration policy and lack of environmental action don't give me any confidence. Anything said or done by the incumbents need close scrutiny.
There's a new petition going around to stop IDS receiving a knighthood. Please read and sign if you want: http://chng.it/cZG8qN774P Remember that this bloke was responsible for much of the austerity measures of the last decade. Something that has proven to be hugely detrimental to the population in many ways.
We are heading for the perfect economic storm. Corona virus just wiped 4.4% off the Dow Jones on a single day. Now we are heading for a No Deal. There may be trouble ahead ....
The human cost of this virus could be devastating, especially to the poor in countries that are affected. It's always the poor who loose out and are hit the worst. They often don't have the medical back up that we enjoy in the developed countries so a virus could rip through communities far quicker with terrible consequences for those affected. Even in the UK there could be many tens of thousands of people badly affected by this. On a financial front I have little sympathy for anyone who looses money on the stock market. For those working in the gig economy and on zero hours, which in reality is the same thing, may of those folk live a hand to mouth existence so a drop in income could well be catastrophic. A lot of people are going to need a lot of help if this turns nasty. Even though the WHO haven't declared a pandemic yet, that is exactly what it is and if our government are actively talking about closing schools and offices for weeks on end then we know this is likely to be everywhere quite soon. It is scary, but rather than being frightened into inactivity, it's far better to look on this as a challenge that we have to get through. It would be nice to see people coming together to help each other, and also to help those who are unable to help themselves. This could be a time when the foundations of a real solid community spirit starts to spring up and we all recognise how incredibly vulnerable we are when isolated, but how strong we can be when we work together for each other. I reckon we might just see that happening, and all of us coming through this as better human beings for it.
Eating my cornflakes this morning I turned the page of my copy of Times when I had the fright of my life. I saw this photograph. This is the man who is supposed to be running the Country. I had said earlier in the week that he wasn't coping and that was why we had the call for simple papers for the simple man too read. He is all froth and no substance and has surrounded himself with sycophants. We are ****ing doomed. Theresa May was/is twice the man this clown is.
