Great goal from Martial as Utd go 2-0 up. The scoreline does not give credit to Watford who have played well. I think Fernandez has been a decent signing for Utd, he looks a player.
Beeb has 22 headline articles on its front football page, and 12 of them are about the women's game. Now I have no issue with women playing football, nor with it being given adequate coverage in the media, but mixing them in with the men's game in the way they do appears to suggest they are of equal interest in general, and I don't think that's the case.
It's a fast growing interest though. Times have changed, there is some high quality in the women's game these days. Back in the day women's matches would regularly attract 50,000 plus. If the FA of the time (1920's,all men) hadn't intervened through self interest who knows where the women's game would be now?
I can't think of a single women's sport that dominates like the men's. So in answer to that question, women's football would be at the level of current netball, and men wouldn't be playing it. Which would be a travesty. So the men in suits did the right thing
Like I said, I have no problem with its popularity, but they're two separate theatres. A few times I've noticed a headline, and thinking I've somehow missed a significant event, have clicked on it only to find it's the WSL. There is either no distinction made between the two, or it is hardly noticeable. I think this is either some need to appear politically correct, or an attempt to sell the game to us in the way they did with American sports in the 80's.
I would say figure skating and hockey off top of head Think someone on here plays quite high level of hockey, what say you ?
I probably wasn't clear, I meant that no women's sport dominates in terms of global audience and popular appeal like the men's.
I think that's supposed to be me. Wouldn't say high level, I'm about middle these days. In terms of international the Ladies get more media attention, but thats purely down to the fact they won Olympic medals fairly recently and one or two of them have done well for themselves, Quek and the Richardson-Walsh's. In terms of the domestic side the Men's game is still way more dominant. More players, more competitive leagues (the ladies has been won by Surbition for the last 6 or 7 years) and the men's game across the world is bigger as other countries like Australia, Germany and the Netherlands see it as a game for both men and women. Frankly don't expect much from the ladies in Tokyo, most of the Rio players are retired. They're abit of a mix now. The Men are a much younger team, since they've pretty much started again as they've failed of the last decade. I digress, just because the BBC are only talk about the Ladies, doesn't mean a thing. The Men's European games are regularly shown on BT and Eurosport just as much as the ladies
Womens sport will always suffer as it isn't the pinnacle of said sport. Strongest, fastest, biggest sports person will always be a man. Having said that young girls clearly need female role models in sport, so leave them to it.
I've done that more than once ..........................Our women were beaten by West Ham today ...............4-2 #nojinx
