I know it is not Saints related but this about a footballer we all know and I defy you to listen to Ian Wright on Desert Island Discs and not cry. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m000fdxw
I heard the bit they played on Pick of the Week relating when his teacher, who had flown in World War 2 and was one of the pilots in the fly-past over Buckingham Palace on VE Day, told him he was more proud when Wrighty was picked for England than he was about his own career. Very emotional, thanks for posting it Godders.
Never forget him at Matty's testimonial and watching Le God's goals on the big screen with awe. Then in an interview after he was chuffed to bits that the SMS crowd were singing "Ian Wright, Wright, Wright" and said he never expected it because he always scored against us!
Always loved Ian Wright. Wears his heart on his sleeve. Some thought he was grumpy in I’m a Celebrity but I thought he was real. watching his reactions to England games is priceless.
From everything I've ever read, calling him one of the best people in football doesn't really do him enough justice.
He always come across as a fan, more than a player. Which for someone who has gone into punditry is rare. He's a good lad.
Ian Wright is great on MOTD. You also saw on I'm a Celeb is what a down to earth family man he is. Always wears his heart on his sleeve and says it how it is. Top bloke.
Gary Lineker; If Var was a a player, would you drop it? Ian Wright: Drop it and fine it. Had good things to say about Smallbone's debut too. Top man, Wrighty
Many years ago, Chelsea fans also saluted him in a match involving said team and Manchester United. They were referring to an incident involving Wright and Schmichael.
Yes I noticed that. Almost squeezed out by the rush to get on to more important matters (in the eyes of MOTD). Your average TV viewer wouldn't have noticed Smallbone. At the game I did, as did others around me. Had that debut been in a Man Utd shirt MOTD would have milked it. Nice one, Wrighty!
