Tiger Rag was definitely the music that the team ran out to in the Raich Carter era. There was a thread some years ago trying to determine the name of the recording but it was unsuccessful. By the way, there was a song composed during the same time. The lyrics went: If you want to hear the Boothferry Roar Come along to Boothferry Park See Raich Carter lead the way Good old Tigers, people would say And when the Black and Amber were right on the mark You would want to sing this ditty So raise your voice in the Boothferry Roar H. U. L. L. CITY.
They didn't run out to Caravan of Love but played a botched version just before the teams kicked off. I thought it was a good idea too but totally ****ed up by the way it was handled. I think they only tried it about three times and each times they made a bigger mess of it then the one before and the idea fell by the wayside.
i remember from years back someone on c.i. posting about mud's tiger feet. i think i remember the details. it was late 90s and we were struggling so the poster rang the club and suggested mud's tiger feet. it was played for a few games but the results remained crap. some time later the poster found a new book containing ground and other details for all the league clubs and on the city page it mentioned city running out to tiger feet and included some snidey comment about someone thinking they were clever for finding a song with tiger in its title. the book suggested, boringly and hypocritically, that city should run out (like every other team at the time) to either simply the best (as if) or the rocky theme. that's the rocky theme, aka eye of the TIGER.
Late 80s/Early 90s we ran out to ‘Simply The Best’ by Tina Turner Around the same time, I think we also used ‘Eye of The Tiger’ by Survivor. All in all, since I’ve been going, it’s been pretty lame and embarrassing. Anyone got any better suggestions to forward on and be ignored by whoever? Actually missed a trick for last Friday’s match v Swansea, could have ran out to ‘Love Cats’.
Not sure if my memory is correct but I remember a phase in the late 90's when they played 'Tubthumping' by Chumbawamba. Not sure if they ran out to it but I remember it being played just before or during the run out.
It's beautiful It's ****in' ridiculous How d'you spell that? Chumbawamba weren't political They were just crap
We came out to Tina Turner and “simply the best” under Dolan. Which was the complete opposite of the truth.
We have definitely run out to Eye of the Tiger , think it was during the dark days of the late 90 's.
This Richmond Tigers tune was around the mid 2000 's . Adam Pearson seemed really keen on it and I quite liked it too . Don't think we came out to it pre match , think it was more a half time thing just like the UB40 can't help falling in love was an end of march tune around the same time .
I also thought we had come out to Tiger Feet at Boothferry Park, but thought it was more of a regular offering, but I’m sure those thoughts have distorted somewhat over the years.... a bit like I’m still convinced Billy Whitehurst should have played for England.....
A big thank you to everyone for commenting and sharing your memories, its invaluable to the project. To answer a few questions... In terms of the funding of the study (and the wasting tax payers money ), these studies have very little costs, and any costs they do incur are funded through statistical training courses Chris runs privately. This is essentially a hobby project - Chris's day to day work is in statistics for more obviously worthy causes such as workplace related health, Nick's a teacher, and I work for a running company. The reason we're doing this study is because we're football fans who are all interested in the game and what it says about the wider culture we live in. We're not only interested in what the music is/was, but the why - we're keen to see how changes in style, type of music used relate to a club's status, wider music fashions, the wider fashionability of football, how clubs have attempted to commodify the match going experience and the battle between globalism/localism. Again, thanks for sharing what you can remember. Tiger Rag is a great tune! I'm assuming it would be unlikely to be used again currently? If anyone else has any more songs to share please let me know. If you remember roughly what season a song was played that's very helpful too! cheers (and my apologies for bumping the thread up - sorry!)
Used to get shivers on a floodlit game midweek, standing at the well at the bottom of the east or south stand and Tina started cranking up on a crackly tannoy....
