James Allison just interviewed saying the system has been known about (FIA?) for quite a while and as far as he is concerned it's legal!

Like everything in F1, it's legal until it isn't. I can't see it being raced as I think there's a case for banning it as moving the front wheels to a neutral toe will reduce drag, therefore it's technically moveable aero.

I guess the argument will be that the drivers turn the wheels which changes the aero but that isn't counted as movable aero!!!
I have a feeling they will race with it. Tempting others to protest and see what happens. I will bet they have a traditional system waiting in boxes should they need it.
One thing I am surprised by is how much movement there is to achieve the effect. I do wonder if that is because the driver is physically moving the rack so needs quite an effort. If it were a hydraulic system that would be 'powered' which is against rules. So maybe it is just a mechanical linkage system?

Always great to see innovation especially so visual. Still can't believe they couldn't hide it from camera so early.

Just did a check and on F1.com 'The dynamic impact tests are performed on the front, sides, and rear of the chassis, plus the steering column. ' so at minimum the 'trick' steering column must have been tested as cars testing must pass crash test!

The only thing I can think is that I have read before that RG provides very good feedback , but is that worth the trade off in lost points and repair bills ?

Anyone seen much footage of Ferrari?

Conspicuously quiet start from them- I got the impression they would play things down this year after last years testing hype.

Tobias Gruner tweeting today they have it on good authority that Ferrari are running full tanks and low engine modes at the moment.

If it's legal then the season is over.

Nice of Mercedes to end hopes after only two days this time, they strung us out for months last year.

Full 6 days on Sky from 9am. Day 3 tomorrow!! I am surprised how much track action there has been. Commentary not too bad considering it's Sky!!

It's interesting, Ted (Sky) was suggesting it was all about tyre temps!! Not sure on that myself. I was thinking it was about NOT scrubbing speed or tyres on straights. Therefore maying tyres wear less, then again after reading what I have written, maybe Ted is right. They quite often have wear issues with rear tyres and this 3d steering wont help that. So maybe it is about tyre temps but no, I'm still thinking it's about max speed and reducing wear on front tyres.

I was mainly just listening to audio while working. I was expecting it to be a bit naff with not a lot going on and I'm not keen on normal Sky commentary but it was OK.. Give it a go tomorrow. :D

That's actually genius. I can see that being quite an advantage when the car is tanked up early in the race if it reduces deg somewhat significantly.

I've seen Racing Point refered to as Tracing Point. I like it and will endeavor to use it this year.

It's being reported that 3d steering is banned in 2021. So I guess FIA have known for quite a while plus how didn't the other teams spot it was banned from next years rules and realise it was allowed in 2020?
