Does this Sheikh make any money from owning and operating that football club? They fake sponsorships, don't even make enough money to compete financially without fluffing numbers. Apart from advertising, does it even have any benefits?
No. Their total investment is circa £1BN, and the value of the club is now at least that. So if they sold tomorrow they’d have had all of that advertising for their oil state for **** all. Canny really.
The Saudis buying Newcastle is all about PR for their country which has a horrendous human rights record. Trophies and profit would be a non-essential bonus.
Ah come on, who'd heard of Abramovich before he bought Chelsea? What, and his motives were any less ulterior? Who's heard of most of the foreign billionaires before they've bought a premier league club? Guangchang before he bought Wolves? Srivaddhanaprabha before he bought Leicester? Or the Glaziers before the Hills Have Eyes? They all have their reasons and it's mostly about power and money, not the sport even though they'll pay lip service to it. Mansoor is no different.
Apparently everyone! I spoke to a gajillion experts on Abramovich, who were all genuinely outraged at the atrocities he had committed in the 90's, because they cared so much for the people of Russia.......
Not really arsed what he’s done. It was a smart move to buy a Prem club. Basically kept the bloke alive and out of Putin’s firing line.
There is a difference. Abramovich et al. are corrupt oligarchs who abused their connections to seize power and money. City's owners are heads of state guilty of crimes against humanity.
It's well documented that City's owners have broken both international law and FFP regulations. But UEFA's jurisdiction only applies to the football issues.
astro, in the kindest of possible ways, it's starting to seem like you're obsessed over this City palaver.
Mate I don't disagree with the moral issue, but that sort of **** SHOULD come up under due diligence when they come to buy clubs in this country. Now we're using them breaking football rules to say oh well they are nasty people for our own football prejudices rather than for the alleged victims. Where was the moral outrage before this?
The FA refuse to actually apply any meaningful tests on owners The moral outrage has always been there, but is now brought up again because Man City have now openly admitted they decided to object to UEFA's punishement on the basis that they did break the laws but consider themselves important enough to be allowed to do so Until now they pretended to be like any other owners, now they are saying they're special and the rules shouldn't apply to them
This is the most important issue in football People whinging about VAR decisions going this way or that way is absolutely nothing compared to this battle If City are allowed to flaunt the rules because their owners consider themselves above international law, let alone the rules of football, then the sport is literally dead If City win their case then don't come crying 10 years from now when lawyers decide who gets points and players face jail terms for fouls against City players
You think? What about Barca, PSG, Chelsea all getting away with breaking UEFA/FA rules? Get done, banned, appeal, reprieved, as you were...
