MOTD were really gushing about Grealish last night You'd think he's been linked with a move to Man Utd...
"Decent" doesn't justify gushing praise. If it did, MOTD would have been gushing over Kieran Trippier for years
Dean Smith's post-match comments about the penalty are a little bizarre. He seems to agree that it was a penalty, but disagree that it was given, for some reason. It took a while to give it because they checked to see if Bergwijn was offside, despite being in his own half.
His comments were...bizarre, to put it mildly, not least the idea that because Bergwijn didn't appeal for a penalty that means it wasn't a penalty regardless of the fact that Engels did commit a foul in the penalty area which is grounds for a penalty to be given (with obvious exceptions...)
That's debatable - started brightly, but faded as the game progressed, nowhere near as influential in the 2nd half, even though his marker had decided to stop marking him after fouling him twice in the first 10 mins. But he was still Villas 2nd best player, I thought Reina was man of the match, an excellent all round goalkeeping display, saved plenty (including the pen) and very good distribution. I liked the look of their new CF too thought he led the line well and caused us a number of problems. But that's just my opinion - And I wouldn't say that any of our players were better individually, but we had more players that influenced the match in the final third than they did. Both defences were poor.
I "LOL'd" at that line when Smith said it. It was a logic straight out of Danny Murphy's Big Book of Punditry Bullshit which says, and I quote, that there is no possible reason under the sun to give Raheem Sterling a red card, as he wouldn't have wanted to hurt an (ex?) England team mate so close to the Euros. Bullshit, bullshit everywhere and not a drop to drink.
Hi Maggie Blanchflower! So Sonny gave you one birthday bonus*..... And here’s another one* for you, Maggie! Many Happy Returns of today**! And of course it’s Deanna Durbin (my mum’s favourite!) to carry the good wishes. I hope my re-wording of the song doesn’t spoil it for you! Oh, Danny boy, the stripes, the stripes came calling: And so you might go down with Brucie’s side. For now you’ve gone, and sadly Rose is falling, Since you said cheerio – I haven’t cried. But it’s a loan, so hombre, ¡ten cuidado! And if the Toons are hushed (bear chests on show), They might then see that you are now a shadow, Oh, Danny boy, I really hope they’ll love you so! It’s now we see that all your skills are dying, Your mojo’s dead, that’s plain for all to see. You’ve simply lost the pace (and I’m not lying) - You’re on your knees and overweight (like me!). Though I still see that debut goal which thrilled me, You’re now so vain, think you’re a VIP! I’ll have you know that your big head just killed me - And I shall sleep in peace ’cos Spurs have set you free! * Maybe we should regard it as a Brucie Bonus? ** Posted it originally yesterday - on the wrong thread, I now realise!
Agreed on lo Celso. I like Ndombele as a CAM, both because his passing is extraordinary and because his defending has been inadequate. I hope the latter, and his fitness, improve, but the player ATM has looked like a very good 10--at times, at least.
I know it's a little mean spirited, but there's something undeniably funny about the crowd noise when Son missed his penalty but buried the rebound going "YEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww..." Probably because there's a minute possibility that one of our regular visitors on Old606 was partaking...
Lot's of "Spurs" birthdays I notice. That's what happens when parents spend 2 weeks at sunny Southend-On-Sea.
