There has never been a more urgent time for ordinary people to get organised, stand up and protest at the way the world is being so chronically mismanaged by crooks, thieves and war mongers. We are in very real danger of mass extinctions across the world, including the extinction of our own species.

For the first time since 1947 the Doomsday Clock has been moved to 100 seconds to midnight. Midnight being the time when everything collapses and there is no more organised life on the planet. The factors that have led scientists and Nobel laureates who determine the time to be set have unanimously agreed that the human race has never faced such a threat of extinction.

This year is the first time that they have included the spread of fake news and other disruptive digital technologies that are having such a devastating effect on democracy. The proliferation of these disinformation campaigns are destroying democracy and therefore rendering peace initiatives and climate change policies virtually ineffective. We have the ability, even as ordinary citizens, to bring about change by coming together and by engaging with and supporting movements to demand action. The one thing these plutocrats fear is the people rising up and refusing to accept the dire situation we are in.

I’m aware this is a football forum and some on here don’t see the need for political or environmental threads. The more these things are talked about and shared, the more chance there is of movements gaining support, and change happening. I love football as much as the next person but we need a healthy planet if we are going to continue to enjoy watching and following it.

 

The very reason why I proposed this thread was that it wasn't an environmental forum. People join forums on things they are interested in and/or already have some knowledge of.
So, largely the converted person talks to the converted person. To a certain extent that doesn't spread the word. But putting an environmental thread (and a political thread), for example in, of all things, a football forum, does get the occasional look-in from someone who might not normally be interested. And a seed might get itself sown. And attitudes may start to change.

 

Whilst I agree with the thrust of your analysis and argument, there is, in my view a flaw. You talk of 'ordinary people ', and the 'ordinary citizen '. As if there is a mass of people with ordinary qualities and defects. In my experience not only are we all different but bring differing potential and talent. The right wing has thrived for centuries on the back of promoting the concept of 'ordinary people '. Whilst, it seems the left has now also accepted the concept! It's lazy and unhelpful. I am lucky to have broad band of family and friends and can confidently say that none are ordinary. If we are to tap the energies of a majority that might tackle the issues we face we should promote uniqueness not an ordinary collective.

This Tory government's sudden conversion to Keynesian economics is a pleasant surprise after a decade of austerity. It remains to be seen however exactly how this will manifest itself. My suspicion is that it will involve massive borrowing to fund spending as Brexit hits the economy. If it gets spaffed up the wall on vanity projects like HS2 and other white elephants it will be a huge missed opportunity that ends in another decade of austerity.

 

Austerity hasn’t ended and won’t while this bunch of charlatans and liars are in charge.

 

Russell Kane isn’t too happy with the HS2 decision. He does have a point though, it is a shedload of money.

If this report is accurate, that is what this government is budgeting to pay to private companies, over the next 6 years, for carrying out Work Capability Assessments (for ESA) and health assessments for Personal Independence Payments (PIP). £44 million per month, apparently.
Would it not be cheaper to get a doctor to confirm work capability?

Yet another example of a very weak PM!!! What have we done to have this person as our PM? He is not fit to lace my shoes let alone follow in the footsteps of Tony Blair, Gordon Brown, John Major, Jim Callaghan, Harold Wilson, Ted Heath and Margaret Thatcher,. I ought to be shocked by this, but given the way this country is going, I am not.
I am, though, disgusted that our government thinks that it is ok to employ scumbags like this and use our money to pay them.

Some people are astonishingly inspiring and I'm not afraid to admit the courage of this woman made me cry.
