can you elaborate on stunt /con? The club / fans/supporters are quite happy to have the financial backing of Dunder … THE CLUB WHOLE HEARTEDLY! Most have accepted .. in a full or "it is what it is" attitude to the new Robin …… The club started 125 years ago or is there a disbelief in the number of years! Should the Sponsor be someone like Butcombe / poplar/thatchers /or would that make a difference If the passing was to go without celebration would that be looked on "as the club dosesnt appreciate our history?" irrespective of what is on the shirt I think the celebration is apt of course we do all have different opinions.... just like to hear what other think!
For those who have not seen the video, of phase 2 of Ashton Gate development https://www.bristol-sport.co.uk/news/the-new-ashton-gate-sports-convention-centre-3d-fly-through/
That looks quite an achievment, I hope I'm around long enough to see it's completion, I'll be able to say I was here as a boy when the cowshed was up and I'm here now to experience this still, I might even get a line in the Bristol Post. Good info ROD.
All nice in theory although there are some truly ugly buildings and it's not a particularly big concert arena given the space available, and the amount of revenue it could potentially generate if it was a little larger. But there are obviously plenty of other revenue streams with offices and hotel etc.
does seem a little sparse for a concert hall, but still have the gate for big ones ? bearing in mind the Colston hall used to get packed for A liners+ and occasionally "seats" on the night for the not so quite A's and "B" rated stars or niche acts could be adequate as it is a conference centre as well. Plus the benefit will be parking? food … drink … bed for the night!
Indeed, but when you consider that the O2 in London holds close to 20,000 and the Genting Arena in Birmingham (which used to be called the NEC) holds something like 16,000-17,000 that's what attracts the worlds big hitters. Outdoor concerts using the actual Ashton Gate stadium are ok but are weather dependent to a degree, especially for those fans who choose to watch from the pitch. And given the weather we get here...…! But then again the parking and transport issues rise the bigger the capacity of a concert hall is, especially in a city that's already got chronic traffic issues on a daily basis.
But the Motorpoint in Cardiff only hold 5000 and you rarely see tours not including that venue. Would be great if there ever is a bigger arena in Bristol but that remains to be seen ever happening. The council only seem to like building more office complexes to attract businesses outside London, Manchester and Birmingham now.
True, but is it because artists/tour promoters feel obliged to include Wales as part of a tour ? I've been to the Motorpoint in Cardiff to see Joe Bonamassa, and aside from the logistics of getting there from Bristol which is a nightmare at times, the location of the venue has everything else going for it in terms of bars, restaurants and parking facilities.
That is the Motorpoint USP, I doubt the location can’t be beaten there. Plus they have the Millenium for bigger gigs not far from train station either. Cardiff seem to have it all at the moment. Big = Millenium Good size = Cardiff City Stadium (**** location compared to the other two) Indoor = Motorpoint. Wonder how much the city makes from that lot in other revenues.
The Millennium, like Wembley Stadium is almost too big and impersonal at times. Saw Bon Jovi there a few years ago and we were about as far away from the stage as it was possible to be. Thank the lord for video screens ! Cardiff as a city probably makes more money for a couple of major gigs than Bristol do in a year with our current pathetic city centre venue offerings, and that's without the added tourism and people perhaps staying an extra day and night in Cardiff to have a look around as I've done previously. They also have the Tram Shed (excellent place), St Davids Hall etc. Having major pop/rock artists visit a city benefits lots of other operations from hotels, restaurants, shops, bars, car parks, Taxi companies etc and that's without the onsite food, drink and merchandise sellers. The best we have aside from the dated Colston (am I even allowed to say that these days ? ) is the O2 and that's not great for capacity. The Fleece holds about 1,000 on a good night. I used to love gigs at the Bierkeller and it was a real shame when it suddenly vanished.
Yes that was back in the day when it was initially called the Hoffbrauhaus (sp) I think and they used to put on strippers for a 5p entrance fee at lunchtime. Yes really, and you can imagine the standard on show... Latterly there was no Germanic influences to be seen despite the name.
when you see all these recollections … mid 60's to mid 70's [ even early 80's ] I often wonder how close as "boys" [ young men! ] some of us may have been, physically I mean, not as mates [sat on same table, next to in bar, stood next to on call of nature journeys, possibly even danced with the same girl before or after each other ] I certainly knew quite a few dozen, by sight occasional name, at the open end, on our home game weekends/ occasional away games …….
My favourite haunt back in the 1980s was the Rummer Bar (front bar). They used to serve Newquay Steam beer in there - that was all the rage for a short while then disappeared almost overnight. it seems to be shuttered up now - although the Market Bar is still there - albeit as a restaurant with no draught beer on tap.
I agree, what kind of deluded owner and club would change the historical colours of a team and expect the fans to be on board with it.....
