Poor old Engels. Had a decent game overall, but really cost his team twice with bad mistakes. Vertonghen replaces Bergwijn. 4 minutes of injury time and we've played five. I wonder how long he'll add?
3-2 FT. Somehow nicked that one, despite wasting tons of chances and defending like idiots all game. Team selection was wrong, subs probably took too long, our bench didn't have enough options, yet we've got 3 points. Alli and Grealish end the game talking about something that they don't want people to lip-read. England or a transfer? Probably drinks, knowing them.
Deserved win on the balance of chances. Entertaining as it is watching us these days, it does grate at me that we're paying top wages for a manager and some of the players yet getting some very second rate performances. If the ticket price reflected that, I wouldn't mind but it doesn't.
Nice to see Grealish showing some maturity and having a word with Engels at the end, who clearly blames himself for the loss.
Forwards were awful at finishing today, 2015/16 Dele would have had 4 in that game. We deserved the win and it was a cracking game but my god, Dier was awful and Toby had one or two shockers. 3 points though and that’s what matters in the end.
Again the team has the character to put right an appalling start but...FFS we are going to get destroyed by someone if Mourinho keeps on picking the Dier/Winks combo....and soon.
Wow did we make that hard for ourselves - don't know for sure but reckon we created more chances (and good chances too) than in any other game this season. Not great defensively, but good signs for from an attacking point of view - Harry would have scored 4 or 5 today
Winks visibly improved once Dier was off the pitch. The latter meant that our midfield was non-existent and Villa were just cutting through us at will. Didn't help that Toby had a really poor game and Dave & Hugo decided to synchronise their 'wobbly' patch, nor did it help that Davies is understandably rusty, but there are ZERO excuses for Dier to be anywhere near the match day squad anymore. I don't know how much more evidence we need for the penny to drop. I understand we have a fixture pile-up, but CM is the one area of the pitch we're well stocked in. I was shouted down on here when I called for him to be sold 2 years ago, but wish I could at least feel vindicated in his absence from the team. Even that isn't happening.
