That's an obvious penalty. They check the offside too and it's not even close, as he's in his own half. It's given. Who takes it? Son. Reina saves, but the Korean's first to the ball and he puts it in. 2-1.
Terrible penalty but thankfully got there quick enough to tap in. Crazy that Son has been dreadful for ages now yet has about 5 goals in 5 or 6 games.
It almost feels embarrassing being 2-1 up after that performance so far. Only two who have come out of this with any respect are Dave and Davies in my eyes. Defenders/ mids not doing their jobs, strikers constantly running into opposition players. Crying out for at least one of Gio or Tanguy.
2-1 HT. Booes ring out at Villa Park and I'd assume it's for the penalty and VAR, though it's clearly the right decision. Son goes down on his haunches as everyone else walks off and it looks like he's in pain, either from his arm or leg. Not good news at the end of an absolutely chaotic half. Both teams have been **** at the back.
I dread it when Son has a penalty, that stupid run up causes more problems, pick a spot and put your foot through it ( penalty advice there ) COYS
Villa must be jinxed against you lot. I've seen their record against you and it's absolutely horrendous.
No idea where to begin with this. Could and probably should be about 5-5 but both sides have been so wasteful in the final third. We got lucky with the penalty rebound and that was a brilliant time to take the lead. You can see why Maureen went with raw pace up front as the Villa back line looks even dodgier than ours, but so far link up play has been minimal. Lucas, Alli and Son spurning chances to play others in and Stevie has struggled to make any impact on the game at all. Another howler from Toby but he redeemed himself with a fine finish on the turn. Dave and Hugo have looked shaky as hell - our inconsistencies are simply infuriating. Davies has looked as rusty as I expected but the short term losses of that are worth it in light of the long term gains of getting him up to speed. Dier has been predictably woeful. I counted 8 misplaced passes in the first 25 minutes. He simply contributes nothing in any role and offers us zero control of the midfield. Winks also hasn't been great but you can see how much more work he and Aurier (who is up against one of the most gifted midfielders in the PL and getting no support from Lucas) have to do when Dier is on the pitch. He really should be coming off at half time and in all honesty shouldn't have started. Or been in the match day squad. Or in the club. He is done at this level.
I don’t think they have, Bergwijn a little better than Lucas but both (along with Son and Alli) have ran into defenders all the time instead of looking up and passing/ shooting. Even though Bergwijn won the penalty, in theory he should’ve squared the ball before the challenge came in.
By the way, do any of you have any footage/pictures of the Engel's challenge? Someone's trying to say Engels got the ball first (he didn't) and I'm trying to prove why it was a stonewall penalty. Far be it for me to back up Spurs, but when an incident like that is so clear cut, I don't see how anyone can claim otherwise.
It's the sign of a good player that they can play badly and score ...oh wait, he plays for us, which means he's a fluky git doesn't it?
I kind of like how ridiculous our games are these days. Son and Dele look fresher after the break, even if their touch isn't always there. Bergwijn looks very exciting and Lucas is slowly improving his decision making. We're still a right off at the back though and they're clearly targeting Aurier's side. I'd like to see Dier pushed out there and either Serge moved forward or taken off. They're going to try and flood us with crosses in the second half, I expect so the more we can block them coming in, the better. Could do with firing some long shots in at the other end as the ball seems to be doing a bit in the wind.
