Shane has just been given a contract extension presumably because this amazing Manager we have recognises his worth to the team and he has made him a first team regular during this recent upturn in fortunes as well. #inralphwetrust
Thank goodness it was Danny's mistake that led to that early goal, and not Shane's. I would worry dearly about you lot out in the street with your pitchforks on a blustery night like this!
Burnley are a horrible team to play against. Physical and cynical, they play to their strengths and when a ref doesn't protect you, it's going to be hard.
I think Ralph has to take this one on the chin. 2 defensive changes cost us today. After the early goal KWP and Vesty both looked a bit lost. Thankfully both improved (credit to RH for persevering with Vesty). I think Vesty had an OK game in the end. The trouble is he tries to actually find a player with soft clearances whereas he should (and did later in the game) just belt it as hard as he can. Overall no one stood out as good or bad. Just a meh sort of game. I honestly think Saints are technically a better team than Burnley and could have won if only they had kept the ball on the deck but long balls just rarely found the target in the swirling wind.
I was really impressed with Stephens - his first touch to bring the ball under control in those conditions was superb - and for a centre half too. Burnley really are dreadful to play against when they get a lead to hang on to. I`d have like to see Djenepo try going on the outside sometimes, rather than coming inside and into traffic every time.
I've noticed the Met Office have issued a red warning for rain in Wales. Rather puts things in perspective when people's lives and homes are at risk.
I don’t think Vestergaard is that great, but he’s not terrible. I’d say exactly the same for McCarthy.
I know you came down for this one, good effort from you. I drove a round trip of 320 miles with a half reluctant Mrs Archer in tow, watched them lose, it was cold, we got soaked to the skin walking back to West Quay clinging on to each other laughing in adversity, bit dodgy driving home in wet clothes, some floodwater, one fallen tree.....will we do it again? You bet your ass we will! I thought every Saints player was good but that's simply because they are my team supported for sixty five years through thick (well less thin) and thin...either side could have won it but it happened to be Burnley good luck to them.
Did Bardsley kick Boufy when he was taken off? He’d already kicked him a couple of times before that That was the game changer
Time to start getting results again. The next 4 games (Villa, West Ham, Newcastle, Norwich) present an opportunity to not only benefit from an increase in our points total....but concomitantly to prevent teams in the lower half from increasing theirs. An important period for Saints...need to regain our momentum.
Just seen the replay and he got completely done by Danny leaving it and had no time to react, I don't think anyone would've expected Danny not to have dealt with it at the near post. The goal was 95% Danny's mistake IMO.
Not wanting to be labelled a bedwetter but we could easily be dragged back down into the fight. We need a couple of wins to steady the ship again.
We're on a bit of a dodgy run but then we never going to sustain what we were doing beforehand, and I never personally thought we'd challenge the top 8 as others did. Nothings changed for me, we still need two wins and have plenty of winnable games left to get them. It would take an unbelievable collapse now, we could achieve that in our next four games.
I just can't see us finishing below 4 of the current bottom 6 and we are more likely to win matches rather than draw them especially away from home.
