We were easily beaten by a superior Blackburn side. The contrast to the game on the opening day of the season can be summed up in two words - Conor Gallagher. We (ESI) have failed to replace him, and it’s showing. Davis is nothing better than a stopper, and McGeady looks a peripheral influence at best. Matt Smith is a real puzzle based on that 45 min yesterday - it’s easy to see why he couldn’t get into a poor QPR side. Other thoughts from yesterday’s game - Blackburns’s No.4 Johnson was a class apart, and bossed the midfield. Their No.39 is a good player as well, as was their keeper Walton who will go onto better things. Nobody played well for us. Taylor looked like he had his laces tied together, and Hemed sad to say looks shot to bits as a footballer. I despair at Pearce - basic, basic errors in the first half like constantly letting the ball bounce, and a clumsy rugby tackle which was a stonewall penalty and a red card (for him). Doughty needs to be taught the basics of football, at the moment he’s raw pace but not a lot else. Regardless of whether or not we stay up this summer, this team needs a major rebuild. We have 4/5 worth keeping, plus a couple of the kids. Far too many loans and has heens.
A nice change to log on and read an excellent football post. The sobering conclusion from yesterday is that the much anticipated transfer window has left us weakened, especially if Bowyer is obliged to play the new loanees. This midfield lacks energy and if we rely on them we're sunk. With Williams injured again Oz, who was excellent on Tuesday, should play, as should Green, who looked fit enough. There are no goals at all in this midfield, or Hemed come to that.
Time to give up on Hemed. He's there to score goals, and now that Bonne and Green are fit there's no need to persist with him. At least he is trying his best now, but wastes his energy, and never poses any threat. Even Josh Davison gives defenses more problems, and even scores the odd goal as well.
Good to see you back Slappy. Regarding the game, the general consensus is we were beaten by the better team. Bowyer is beginning to worry me a bit though. Against Stoke, we were overrun in the first half, yet he didn't make any changes until the match was lost. He also made a change at the tail end against Forest that invited them onto us, and saturday against Blackburn, Smith was not a wise choice in my opinión. I guess you could argue we had nothing to lose at 2-0 down, but sadly it looks as if we are stuck with a couple of players who are out of their Depth for the rest of the season. I've seen a few people comment favourabbly about Hemed, but personally, I'd rather see Bonne up front linking with Taylor. My major worry is the sort of swash buckling attacking we could achieve at the start of the season is evaporating as the shadow of relegation grows. Like @Miketyson2007Junior I think saturday was a tough one, and we have enough to stay up, but cowering in fear around our box won't get us the wins we need.
zero link between midfield and forwards, Williams or Oz drop deep to pick the ball up and try and make things happen. McGeady doesn't normally play that role and it ended up with Naby trying to start attacks , movement was poor and Alfie needs to learn how to cross quickly its pointless bursting into the box to then have every cross sail behind for a goal kick! Pearce for me also looks so panicky on the ball it affects the team. Performance was as flat as the Amstel
Hello Bummie, We need more posts from you now that Mr ban Gerwen has disappeared, @Smudger603 is doing well and being active.
For the last seven days he has only posted his report of Saturday's defeat. There has been a bit of a fall out.
