This is precisely it and the reason that I let it just wash over me. I don't see it as a reason to make him a figure of hate or to allow it colour my view of their ownership as a whole.
If you went into a shop to take back a faulty purchase and the person serving you was looking down on you, said it was all your fault and referred to you as uneducated would you be happy? Because that is exactly what Methven is doing with his customers.
Not particularly. But perhaps the shopkeeper is just having a bad day. Getting worked up about it isn't going to get your faulty equipment changed though, is it? You keep calm, explain the situation, and demonstrate that their initial assumption was wrong. Making a big deal out of Charlie Methven's silly comments will just reinforce his mistaken opinions.
In the real world the customer would take their custom elsewhere the next time. Football fans are not afforded that privelege. Donald obviously thought it was unacceptable as Methven was squeezed out from dealing wirh fans again.
Yep, which was the right thing to do under the circumstances. It's been dealt with now and should be over but people are still using it as a stick to beat the owners with. They've made mistakes and got things wrong but they're not as bad as people want to make them out to be.
It would take more than this to become a hate figure ... ... sadly his moaning about 80,000 supporters travelling to Wembley and being humiliated twice didn't help. He has an arrogant attitude that stinks tbh, you'd think he'd at least be able to pretend to like us.
He's certainly arrogant but I've come across people who are far more arrogant and have far worse attitudes. I think there's a kernel of truth to some of what he's said. He could have said the same thing phrased in better terms though.
He said uneducated in business matters didn't he? That's a long way from labelling folk as uneducated per se. Me? I WAS uneducated in business matters but better heads than mine on here and over the road have helped remedy that in the many threads dedicated to this takeover and the original purchase of the club by SD. We all owe those posters a huge debt of thanks, it can't be easy simplifying complex business issues enough so that business-uneducated folk like me can understand these issues.
I've never been offended by anything CM has come out with but that's just me. A few 'home truths' dont hurt anyone, I'd rather hear that than have someone blow smoke up fan's arses all the time. His wording of disease was not meant in the way some fans took it to be, but hey, we live in a world now when ppl want to be 'outraged'
I think we live in a world now where people claim other people are 'outraged' if they mention something in passing.
Pretty much my thoughts. Can't help but feel that as Methven is a prime candidate for the 'upper-class twit of the year show' anything he says is going to be construed as condescending. If someone else had said similar it might not have been taken the same way.
So, if people should just ignore what Methven says why can't you do the same with what the supporters say ....
@BigPete GOM just posted this "He's not. I've seen posts from him timed when I've actually been sitting talking to Methven, and his phone was on the table in front of him." Guess that puts it to bed
I'd put good money on him not being Charlie. For one thing he's said things that aren't just harsh, but would paint Donald (and by proxy CM) as liars. He just wouldn't do that even to sell a bluff.
I seem to recall that, owing to differences in grammar and spelling, the RTG consensus was it was likely an account both SD and CM could access, floating opinions they wanted to see fans reactions to. That being the case, it didn't matter if CM was sat next to GoM when a post was made.
