Another day then with no action over the jumps in the Isle. And with Storm Dennis set for the weekend (or Dennis The Menace or even Dirty Den according to the tabloids) we could soon be crawling in the undergrowth in search of the ‘rarely spotted NH fixture’.

And the big question of the day is when will the clamour for ‘bumpers for jumpers’ commence again?!? Serious question, by the way, I’m not being flippant. Afterall, it’s what the breed was bred for.

Funnily enough I tweeted about jumpers bumpers about an hour ago. Get them on! Perfect prep for the festival.

this weather will impact on getting horses qualified for the Foxhunters, be interesting to see if horses have to run close to the festival like we saw with Caid Du Berlais last year. He is my current pick for said race, but only if they can get the great Victoria out of retirement.

And the Pertemps Final. A handful of notables are still waiting as qualifiers have already been abandoned and you seriously have to wonder about Haydock at the weekend. Suppose that depends on 'Dennis The Menace's' timing.

But yes you can't beat a good 'Bumpers for Jumpers' heat. Surely, its the race that the Festival is missing!

it only works on the all weather surface, otherwise it’s called the Chester Cup isn’t it?

Thinking about it I can’t remember a year with so many abandonments. Usually it’s frost but the rain hasn’t stopped this winter. I can’t see the ground changing for the festival. Talking to my farmer mate he says the water table is so high even with a bit of dry weather it only takes a bit of rain to saturate the ground. Though the grass is growing well and the horses are going mad because they can smell the spring grass they’re getting a bit fresh.

You are right...I can't recall it being such a wet winter for some time..we are 4 weeks away and rain is forecast in next few days.
Music to the ears of the likes of Gold Cup hopefuls Native River, Bristol de Mai and Presenting Percy..

    afternoon,fellas!

    southwell,2 20:

a tight Little heat, but ive the feel, that LIAMBA can take this.for some reason, she didnt perform last time out,but won nicely the time before, and still on a fair mark.also runs invariably well here, and, maybe the most important factor, shes not yet fully exposed over this trip, having been mainly campaigned over 6 furlongs so far.so,there could be a bit of improvement to come.

this might be between MIZUKI and omnivega.both have already shown some ability behind horses, that have shown to be top class Performers afterwards, and not easy to split, but the balding filly has the better draw in stall 2,so that gives her a very narrow nod.
