Iv'e been to more games than he's had hot dinners I've followed the toon twice as many years as he has been born
if he would like to sit next to me at the next home game then he would see what real passion is

I would imagine the same laws outside of a football stadium apply inside

Maybe you can get that special needs discount now... They have thier own section. Just tell them you have tourettes as well and you can merrily swear like a trooper.

If you use excessive language, stewards are told to give you a warning, a further warning then call for assistance (ie. an escort). From there they will decide if you're getting a ban.

Most stewards will turn a blind eye to the likes of '****ing ref!' that are obviously heat of the moment but if it's deemed consistant that's when you might get a talking to. If it's directed at fellow fans that's much worse and if they complain that's when you get in trouble, especially if kids are involved.

To be honest, you have to be pretty bad to get a ban for abusive language but it is possible, usually it's an escalation where a fan gets aggressive after being told to stop swearing.

Obviously, '****' is frowned upon and '****' usually gets the alarm bells ringing but so long as you're not just using language for the sake of it and it's a genuine reaction, you should be fine.

9. Haha, you're acting like im constantly effing and blinding. It's not like am one of those drunk, obnoxious idiots that when everyones trying to watch the game, i'm swearing loudly like a navy reject.

I swear no more than everyone around me. There's this fat bloke that's always drunk and he sits behind me, and when he gets angry, he literally runs down the stairs and has a complete fit. No one says anything then.

11. I never use ****.

This is what i'm normally on about - E.G. When a player like Drogba or Dafoe blatantly dives and gets a freekick for it, and everyones shouting, i'll be like "you diving bastard" or "**** off you diving ****er".

When Cheik Tiote scored, even though i knew it'd piss him off, i went mental and was like "****ing get in!! what a ****ing goal".

As far as I’m concerned the sport originated from working class roots. I've heard swearing at the match since my first game when i was 7, that was 28 years ago and its not harmed me. In my opinion it goes with the territory so if you done like swearing, don’t go to a football game. Unfortunately in this day and age it is perceived as non-PC and a jobs-worth steward could get you turffed out and could be banned. Although in my experience i haven’t seen anyone thrown out for swearing in all my time there, i've seen people being asked to tone it down but not thrown out.

Stewards are fans too and usually let it slide BUT if a fan comes up to you with a complaint, you HAVE to ask them to stop swearing.

I think the key thing is provocation. If you're using language to intentionally provoke another paying fan (apart from rivals) that's when you can get in trouble. If someone has asked you not to swear or to tone it down and you ignore them, they're likely to complain and whether they want to or not, NUFC have to take action.

I'm ex forces an can litterally swear like a trooper when called for, I have a language for home (in front of my wife and kids) and a language for work. If I take my 7 year old or my 11 year old to the match I expect a bit of swearing after all the kids do worse in school but I've had to politely ask people to tone it down a notch when it becomes excessive and in general most people don't mind (I've sometimes got to point out that my son's autisitic and I'll get in trouble if he goes home swearing like an Irish navvy which normally gets a laugh!)

Almost mate. There are certain things that are slightly different as it is private land. Swearing in a public place would be a breach of the peace. Now you could argue that SJP is a public place, but it's privately owned so it could get a little confusing. Not really sure how that would pan out in a court.

St James is owned by Newcastle City Council and leased to the club, is still classed as a public place

I read somewhere that SJP is part of the town moor, therefore freemen of the city can technically let their livestock graze on the pitch

Leazes Park was historically part of the Town Moor, owned by the Freemen of Newcastle,[18][19] and protected by the Newcastle-upon-Tyne Town Moor Act 1988
