What did O'Leary expect - the handicapper to give him bottom weight in the 40 runner field. It will serve him right if Tigerroll gets up to mischief and refuses to jump the first

170 is very high indeed - almost in Gold Cup winner territory. I can't reconcile Tiger Roll's weight with that of Native River and I fear they may have handicapped Tiger Roll out of the race. I think 166 would have been a sporting challenge to them, but we shall see. If he wins the Cross-Country at the festival I believe they will be sorely tested to call it a day.

He won off 159 last year so 11lbs is probably fair enough isn’t it? The issue is that they’ve got a horse in Tiger Roll who doesn’t run in other handicaps so you can’t really get his mark lowered!

the question id ask is where would you see him in a Gold Cup? For me he could easily place in one, which is probably what BDM and NR can do this year too. Ok that he should probably be on the same mark as those two.

they’ve got to go for it. How can you not aim at history? It’s the biggest way of them making an indelible mark on the history of the sport.

Fair point Nass, it is hard to get a real handle on him if he runs in 1 handicap per season. Last year's second has a decent pull with him so she might finish closer again.

Tiger Roll in a Gold Cup? I'd probably put him around the same as the last National winner to have run in the Gold Cup (RIP).

That makes no sense. Surely it would be great to see the horse run to his potential and be there with a chance to make history at the business end.

Well I meant I'd have Tiger Roll about the same level as Many Clouds (well held in Coneygree's Gold Cup)

good old Many Clouds. He was an interesting one as he got cut short when he looked to be an improving horse. A rarity for a GN horse

2 Irish old boys I was looking out for in the imposts were The Storyteller and Sub Lieutenant. Cor blimey I think the handicapper has done for them both. Somewhat harsh weights for the pair.

Personally I think Tiger Roll has been assessed fairly and if I had to nominate 2 at this stage it would be him and Beware The Bear.

Meanwhile, I don’t think the ‘Lets ensure Anibale Fly finishes last in every race he runs this term prior to the release of the weights’ mission has really worked. He‘s still got assessed at 162!

Native River is the one, but to run in this after a Gold Cup with his running style is surely too much of an ask?

The two I like are Definitly Red (has a horse with as bad a name ever won the National?) and Elegant Escape who is a surprising omission from the top rated horses by Timeform.

    So far I have this:

    Discorama 50/1 e/w (Non Runner)

    Le Breuil 40/1 e/w

    Yala Enki 33/1 e/w

    Ramses De Teillee 40/1 e/w

Just waiting for the list to be cleaned to see if a horse gets in, if he doesn't, I think those three will be my bets, although I find it very difficult for Le Breuil to get in.

Technically Tiger Roll is not yet qualified for this years Grand National as he has not run in a chase this year - just saying

Best place for this I'd say.

Had a bit of a difference of opinion with a chap down the old pub regarding the smallest horse to win the grand national, he proclaimed that Miinnehoma was the smallest and won at 8s, so disputed the price but cannot find the size.
Tiger roll and another I came up with but how big was Miinnehoma?
