He's too busy having to play as 7th choice centre back at the moment.

Change of personnel doesn’t improve our ability to pass a football.

Mots activities were more violent in the 70s.

Not just football. I recall nasty brawl at Lords Taverners charity cricket game at the Circle in the early 70s, started by a dispute over kids collecting empties. Claret, broken bottles the lot. RL involving our local clubs was frequently violent especially when drunken buses of west Hull thugs and their husbands rocked up at Fev or Cas.

I recall 4 separate murders down Coltman street in one calendar year, and petrol bombs on Anlaby Common used in the internecine endemic dog eat dog tribalism prevalent at the time.. Boothferry v Hessle etc

A night round town before cctv and doorwatch schemes was always lively and Hull used to have lots of stag parties visiting from the NE or Wessie land.

I get that some younger folks think it's all wistful nostalgia but it's recalling the larger than life exploits of yesteryear that were rarely chronicled in the press, but were the subject at workplaces and playgrounds every Monday morning.

It seemed normal or commonplace at the time, as it was everywhere and seemingly part of social activities If people recount events from back then it's often with a sense of disbelief and amazement that it all went on and that they emerged relatively unscathed.

May I please take the opportunity to big up all the people travelling from HU or similarly distant places to Ewood Park. tonight.

    Chapeau well and truly doffed.
