    http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepag...n-Bent-goes-on-the-attack-at-Aston-Villa.html

Bent is moaning about his lack of goals and how Villa create next to no chances for him due to the defensive nature set up by McLeish. McLeish is known for a defensive mentallity right throughout his career. Also in the summer McLeish admitted Villa have to balance the books and the wage bill is astronomically high and has to be reduced.

My question is, Is Bent worth a cheeky £10-12million bid in January??

No! We wouldn't hear the end of it from the soap dodgers down the road. If Bent wants a game at Villa he should probably put away the chances he gets from 5 yards out.
Bent will get goals this season without a shadow of a doubt but not sure he's the sort of player we're looking for. Both attitude & style of play.

I would agree that his attitude maybe isn't what we are looking for but he is exactly what we need IMO. Knows the premier league inside out and is the "fox in the box" type player we require!!!

For £10-12 million I'd take him, but no more than that. But it's unlikely to happen (he was signed for £24 million just last season), and, as skalpel said, he has a poor attitude.

NO ! Hes basically been there and done that and as the seasons go by he will get worse . We want players with prospects , not ones that will go down hill.

I think we're looking for someone quicker who can run onto through balls and beat offside trap. Don't think Bent has that sort of pace, he gets caught offside quite a lot especially for England.

I think Bent is quick enough, but like you say there might be better options. I would prefer someone with premier league experience, not someone from France etc. It all fair and well signing def/mid from these countries but strikers confidence can be knocked easily with lack of goals and if they get off to a bad start we could have another Luque on our hands.

I think Bent is a good and reliable striker when in form, but he just seems to be a bit of a tit really. Most of the times I've seen him play recently at Sunderland and Villa he's usually throwing his arms around and moaning if somebody doesn't do something exactly as he wished. He's moaning about his current club who he once saw as the light at the end of the dark wearside tunnel; and he isn't exactly worshipped by them lot either.
Our team spirit seems to be very high and someone like Bent I wouldn't see fitting in in that respect.

So in other words I'm saying he has a poor attitude and Tiotesleftfoot has a time machine.

On a serious note, I'm not sure Bent would fit. As we've seen from our goals this season, we need someone a bit more maneuverable with a good first touch and the strength and ability to hold it up and link play. Bent, as you say, likes the fox in the box role.

Best has shown ability in every game this season and scored in most, as much as I feel we need strength in depth, if he carries on in this vein of form, surely he is our 10-15m rated striker after all?

Plus as people have said, attitude is ****e and I would rather pander to Ben Arfa's prima donna needs than Darren Bents, we've invested far more and I feel he can create more from nothing than Bent can!

We need someone to play up front with this legend/enigma though!!!

In all seriousness I am glad all the Best haters have changed there tune on here, I can't remember who they are but the negative comments flying around were ridiculous. I have always thought Best has something after that West Ham performance and he desreves to lead the line!!!

He would be worth a bid but unless your name is Mike or Derek and you have a controlling stake in NUFC I can't see this happening due to account of having to spend money.

You're welcome to him. But if he did well for you he'd be off the season after, mercenary twat.

I think this is a fairly accurate assessment of Bent's chosen career path!

As for Best hating, I genuinely felt he showed glipses of his ability in the latter Championship matches (blowing my own trumpet whilst wearing rose tinted specs of course). I'm sure one of the regular match goers/slightly more attentive watchers will be able to tell me, but there was a series of games where he came very, very close to getting his first goal towards the end of the season, hit the bar, sent a class volley narrowly over and brought out a great save of the keeper. I never saw him hitting this kind of form though, and I think everyone, (managers included) are kind of waiting for it to finish!

You beat me to it, my words exactly.
The statement he made when he arrived at Villa was word for word the statement he made when he arrived at Sunderland, it was insulting and to me it summed up the man. I lost all respect for him then, no loyalty whatsoever.

I reckon he's seen his top form (and best season) already, at Sunderland of all places.

I could be wrong though, he's still got a few years left at the top.
