The Betfair Hurdle is obviously a minefield but I noticed that William Hill are offering SIX places for Each-Way players.

Not So Sleepy has been favourite for the race for a while and he is seen by some to be an each-way play for the Champion Hurdle. He needs to win this to keep his hopes realistic for the Cheltenham Festival you would feel. I can't see it myself and the off-putting thing for me with Not So Sleepy is his age. As an 8YO he does not appeal as much as he would were he a young horse with plenty scope. His Handicap mark is 144 now, which is a 17 lbs rise and he would surely need to improve a further stone and a half to win a Champion Hurdle. That mark of 165 would make him a realistic player in a weak renewal of the top Hurdle race but he has a long way to go I feel. Can he win today though?

The last thirteen renewals of the race have gone to 5YO or 6YO horses and overall horses aged 8 or over have a very poor record. For that reason I can't have Not So Sleepy here.

Plenty are arriving in winning form and are on the up and horses like Mack The Man and Never Adapt fall into the 5-6 age bracket. I saw the Mullins horse Ciel De Niege tipped up and some might feel he has been prepared with this race in mind and may be on a winning mark of 135. He only went down a head last time amd was arguably unlucky not to win but that was only a Maiden race on Heavy ground and it has not worked out well at all. It is hard to shake the worry that Ciel De Niege was beaten as 1/4 Fav that day and he's not for me.

I have not seen any love at all for my own selection and he doesn't seem to even warrant a mention anywhere. Stolen Silver fell on debut but won next time out before then running second to Nicky Henderson's Chantry House. He then went one better n a four runner race where the re-opposing Bannerkingrebel finished 3rd. Bannerkingrebel will be better in this time but I feel Stolen Silver has more to come and Nigel Twiston-Davies has won three of the last six Betfair Hurdles after Al Dancer landed last year's renewal.

Stolen Silver meets some of the trends and the stable have had some winners this week, so in a tricky race I thought he was fair value at 12/1 EW six places. The horse who beat him two runs ago, Chantry House, runs in and is favourite for the opener on the card and a good win might be a further pointer to Stolen Silver's chance.

3.35 Newbury Stolen Silver EW Six Places

Good luck if betting on this puzzler of a race.

You’re right what you say about not so sleepy and I’m not one to have an ante post for the festival but I have with this one. I’ve never seen anything like it lto running with choke out and winning by a distance. I’ve got a feeling for this one.

Never Adapt / Thebannerkingrebel dutched win bets

the former should get a pace to run at and I think she will continue to improve (and is a horse for the mares race at a big price) and the latter I think is well handicapped and bigger field race should suit more

Beyond the Law looks a cracking ew bet in the first at Naas today...particularly with PP & Boyles paying 4 places. The Cheltenham hc weights are due out, so it maybe that this one is out for a spin and midfield finish to get another couple of pounds of his back...but if he's on a going day he'd eat most of this lot. M Morris had a double at Thurles on Thursday also.

One of my cliff horses running today - Sceau Royal. With the ground perfect for him can he finally beat Altior?

Mack The Man for me in the Betfair Hurdle - mightily impressive at Sandown and still on a workable mark.

Chapters just saying why would anyone want to back altior today at odds on. You might as well take the 11/4 for the champion chase, if you trust Henderson. I tend to agree with him.

My bets are rubbish at the moment, so if I’m on one of yours today I apologize. I backed Bristol City last night, they hadn’t lost a league game in their last 6 and could of moved up to 3rd in the table, but i backed them, que, battered at home. Anyway mine for today

    hi fellas!

    warwick,12 55:

TRINCOMALEE could be the answer here.he has built up a very solid profile so far,and won here in may on his seasonal debut.shapes,as if this longer trip might bring About more improvement from him.good Chance.

    naas,1 05:

VELOCITY BOY emerged from the Doldrums with a good win last time out,and a 6 lbr rise should be within his range,as he has won off higher marks in the past.no Problems with trip or Ground,so he should be competitive again today.

    warwick,2 05: KINGMAKER CHASE

i think, the key race is the Event, where NUBE NEGRA and torpillo have already met this Season at sandown two months ago, where the Skelton horse ran a fine race in second, only beaten by a fellow improver, and torpillo well beaten off that day.so,as Things stand,NUBE NEGRA should confirm the form today, and he has also a Course win to his Name, which is Always a big plus here.if hes Right to be so short in the betting is another matter,as this race has a very Level look.we ll see..

    Good afternoon horsey peeps :)
My leapers(or should that be lepers, as in some to avoid?) today are ….
    Newbury
    2-25 Altior
    3-00 Native River
    3-35 The Bannerkingrebel

    Warwick
    2-05 Rouge Vif
    2-40 Legends Gold
    3-15 Katpoli
    3-50 Urtheonethatiwant NAP

I had the misfortune to choose last night, the 2 that "The Insider" put up on the Opening Show (Rouge Vif and Bannerkingrebel) … if they win you can tell people you know who he is <laugh>

That Nube Negre is a frustrating horse - travelled like a dream again, jumped beautifully and then went out like a light <doh>

warwick,2 40: another open-Looking contest, but ive backed INDEFATIGABLE already a few times this Season, and shes got a very tough and hardy attitude, which will stand her in good stead today.also is very reliable, apart from a blip last time out..

Dunno what to make of Altior's win - comfortable at the end, but not devastatingly so.
