According to Arsenal.com we have over 30 people (1st team & reserves) coaching staff Wot the hell do they all do? They must be able to fit a defensive coach in there sumwhere!
Theres like a physio assistant physio assistant physio kit man assistant kitman masseur assistant masseur etc probably only works out to like 10 different things
I started to lose the will to live after reading a half a dozen or so profiles. There seemed to be a lot of fitness coaches which is a bit worrying considering our injuries. But personally I vote we sack the motivational coach & get Keown in
Said this before and will say it again, Wenger's ego will mean he will never appoint a 'defensive' coach. Especially now when the fans and the media have called for it. It will just look like Wenger backing down because of fan pressure.
A bit of a novel idea here, stolen from the NFL, but we should have a defensive coach (stateside defensive co-ordinator), to try and teach the defence how to, uh, defend, and an offensive coach (offensive co-ordinator) to teach the players to shoot, rather than try and pass the ball into the net. That leaves arsene free to deal with more off-field issues, and maybe work on some tactics. Problem is Arsene's ego wouldn't allow it.
Has he ruled it out? or as the OP suggested 'failed to respond' to the question? I know Wenger has said in the past that he'd find it difficult having people do jobs that he felt were his, but I think we're crying out for a DF coach.
Wenger is taking the idea of people wanting him to get a DF coach as a personal dig at his coaching, hence the response. The guy has an ego on him which would not allow such a thing. Also to this day Wenger has never spoken about the work Keown did with that defence back in 2006. The line is always same, he was only doing his badges and thats it.
Part of the problem is that he has taken just about everything on himself so the moment anyone suggests anything, it becomes ' personal '. I think Arsene needs a holiday so he can come back recharged and with a fresh outlook. And before anyone jumps to a quick conclusion about my remarks, it is not intended as a dig.
His pig headed stubborness will be his undoing, how many years did he plough ahead with the hapless Almunia, believing him to be top class to our dismay and going against the grain of the sentiments of every fan pundit and expert across the country. It's only by pure chance and the excellence of our scouts that we now have an able goalkeeper, I feel the exact same thing is happening now with regard to our back four, Wenger is not the man to organise us properly in this area and is negligent in his work on this part of our team.
Pat rice coached under George greahame States "enigma" perhaps he should remember that G.G trained under Terry Venebles and was inspired into management by Terry Truth to tell you have won zilch since wenger lost the last of the G.G back five
I got as far as reading "Harry Redknapp thinks" and then broke down in fits of uncontrollable laughter.
Interesting discussion with Stewart Robson on Arsenal's lack of defensive coaching - http://www.talksport.co.uk/radio/ki...s-me-wenger-doesnt-do-any-defensive-coaching?
It has been said all too often that Arsene Wenger is stubborn but as you say, if we fail miserably this season, what would he do? Would he even be there to pick up the pieces and would we wish him to? In an ideal world everything would be well and he would leave on a high. If he messes it up he should clean it up but by then it would be too late. If he walks away when it's a mess, we will have to get it all back together again. It would be a great sadness if he had to leave without one final hurrah with the club not to mention the damage to his reputation. The warning signs have been there for some years now and it was then that the rot should have been brought to a halt. So yes, you are right too. Gazidis should go. I don't know about Kroenke since he has the shares. That's quite a bit more complicated. Does anyone know any oil sheiks?
