Looks like he might be positive on a Crimewatch line-up, the state of him. My positive would be KLP, so long as the current situation doesn't stunt his growth as a player. Not sure why the Allams were back in force at the stadium on Saturday, but that could be another positive, maybe they are OK to leave now they have robbed us of all our best players and hope with it.
The circumstances for these three signings from the old 3rd Division teams ( Waggy from Mansfield, Houghton & Butler from Rotherham) are so different from those L1 signings we are currently making. At 40,000 quid each, for the time, they were essentially record incoming signings for a L1 equivalent team. Our benefactor (Harold Needler), who was definitely a "fan". as were other Needler family members, had already spent large sums on redeveloping Boothferry Park. One of the best grounds in the country by the early/mid '60[s when those 3 players were recruited) . We already has a very strong player base on our books (Chilton being the jewel in the crown). Creative financing helped build a team of expensive /talented players, by owners who obviously wished for a profitable business, but were also fans and knew about football. None of these "positive factors" ever existed throughout our current owners tenure - with the exception of a profit motive. Today we are buying cheap (dare I say scraping the barrel (euphemistically)) as stop-gaps in order that our water-treading owners, without ambition & love for the club & what that means to the fan-base, can recoup or minimize any potential future losses. They may well end up being satisfied with their return-on-investment from their foray into running a sporting business, but they have lost all ambition to make the club great. That was never the Needler's position from the onset, unlike the current owners motivation. I hope the comparison in your final sentence can emulate the historic situation, but I very much doubt it will given the lack of will and the ill feeling that exists within the current toxic environment. We admittedly didn't reach the top echelon in the 60's as we did in the last decade, but the atmosphere was so much better. Damned sad.
I like Burnsy too. He came and sat with us at a service station whilst we all had a coffee once and an off the cuff bollocks waffle. Very likeable bloke.
You're right there, but Lichaj has, for the most part, played well, Kingsley has hardly had one good game playing for us. I wasn't basing my criticism just on this game, but one the whole.
I watched some of the game, France defence looked better and who is their new defence coach...??? Shaun Edwards...He of Wigan fame...Makes you wonder why he isn't England's defence coach. That said, the French didn't have much to defend against!!
There's been a lot of talk about us being a work in progress and McCann needing to develop the players etc suit his system etc, but as things stand, half the squad are out of contract is the summer and he's going to have to start all over again... 2020 - Bowler, Josh [FW] (Loan) 2020 - Kane, Herbie (Loan) 2020 - Maddison, Marcus (Loan) 2020 - Pennington, Matthew [CB] (Loan) 2020 - Wilks, Mallik (Loan) 2020 - Batty, Daniel [CM] 2020 - Dicko, Nouha [ST] (Plus 1 year option) 2020 - Henriksen, Markus [CM] (1 year option used) 2020 - Irvine, Jackson [CM] (Plus 1 year option) 2020 - Kingsley, Stephen [LB] (Plus 1 year option) 2020 - Lichaj, Eric [RB] (Plus 1 year option) 2020 - MacDonald, Angus [CB] (Plus 1 year option) 2020 - McKenzie, Robbie [CB] 2020 - Stewart, Kevin [CM] 2020 - Toral, Jon [FW] (Plus 1 year option)
Dicko, Henriksen, Kingsley, MacDonald and Toral I doubt will be renewed (Dicko and Henriksen are obvious) loan signings Pennington and Bowler we have a permanent option on both I believe. Based on what I have seen I’d sign both of them.
There was a direct correlation between England's performance on Sunday and City's performance on Saturday, that's why I mentioned it. Given you probably didn't watch either game, can I respectfully suggest you pipe down on this occasion.
Toral is a difficult one as he is obviously a good player but he needs to be on the pitch to do any good and he rarely is.
He’s permanently injured though. Using an Adkins quote we need ‘robust’ players that can play regularly. Players like Toral are brilliant when fit, but the problem is they are often not fit. Which creates starting 11 disruption all the time.
It really is nonsense. Burnsy asks the questions we would probably have asked ourselves. He’s a decent bloke I’ve met him a few times.
I expect that’s the same for most clubs these days Remember the commentator saying t about qpr but a lot worse this season.
I think February is a tough month of fixtures. It's going to take a change in psyche to get anything meaningful from this month. Let 's hope they can galvanise themselves into a unit.
