I don't agree that he should be taking Sundays off, that's taking Religion to the Nth degree and he has a contract. But supposedly it's in the terms of his contract he doesn't have to play certain games etc... otherwise he'd be breaching contract and the club at hand would get rid of him.

Religion has no place in football, as has been shown by Celtic and Rangers. I have no problems with people practicing their beliefs as long as it doesn't impact on anyone else.

Out of a matter of interest, not trying to be a **** or anything but:

Why do you believe in God? I can guarantee 90% of people on the street will say "Faith." To be quite honest, to us Athiests/Agnostics, that makes **** all sense <laugh>

Dude .. really ?? I thought you would provide something better than that.

You provide stories of battles from the OLD TESTAMENT - when the "eye for an eye and tooth for a tooth" law was law. You have provided an account of something that happened which has NOTHING top do with the laws and teachings of the bible. where does it say that God says we should go and murder woman and children and pillage villages ? We have the 10 commandments. We have the Tora. Neither Christianity or Judaism tells us we should kill people. the old testament was written by a man who claimed he was inspired by God, that is as well as may be, but Christianity is the New Testament of the bible and the Tora (the Jewish religious book) doesn't tell us we should hurt anybody at all.

The New Testament passage you provided talks about slaves, so what ? slaves were the norm in those days, the passage says that masters should not threaten their slaves, so you reinforce my point here !

I think you need to try again !

I don't want to get sucked into the argument, but Christianity is based upon the bible - hence shouldn't everything in the bible be the law of God, even the bits that are not to your liking?

Todays modern god botherer can pick and choose his/her faith to suit their agenda.

    happens all the time.

I do have a problem with people following their beliefs.

    Scientologists for example.

Rugby needs the Money and the recognition so to abandon sunday games would be a complete financial disaster. I always thought religion and sport ( especially football) are invariably linked? For some people putting on the shirt on a sunday is the same as wearing your sunday best. There is now so much money involved in football that the FA would not even consider abandoning Sunday games. I would say over a premiership weekend In terms of ratings Sunday games are the most watched. From a players point of view it's their personal decision as a believer whether they choose their 'job' over their faith. What would really be gained from not playing football on Sundays? I think the church needs to look in house as to why more and more people are choosing to stay at home and watch the footie than listen to a hypocritical institution tell you how badly your living your life. If you want an example of the perfect marriage between sport and religion the look at the Brazil team, a deeply religious Nation and if anything their faith lives side by side with their sport.

Slaves were the norm those days so therefore passages in the bible telling slaves to obey their masters is okay and still acceptable today? Yeah, that makes perfect sense to me.

As for the 10 commandments, you tell me not to quote the Old Testament and do it yourself which is hilarious to begin with but anyway: The first 4 have nothing to do with living life as a good person; they demand that you obey and serve the wishes of the megalomaniac who wrote them. The next tells you to honour your parents (nothing mentioned about honouring children), only then do we arrive at some laws that are so self evident that they've been obvious to humanity since before the days of religion thus ruling out their need in the first place. Note that there is no commandment outlawing slavery - but according to you that's fair game because '**** was like that back then' right?
Where does it say certain people should be murdered to preserve the holiness of a religion? Well for one, here: http://bible.cc/deuteronomy/17-12.htm

You've made a pitiful attempt at trying to disprove my point, which was that there is plenty of disturbing **** in old holy books.

I see absolutely no reason to be annoyed with him, he is suggesting a course of action not trying to impose it, he has said before he will never play for Scotland on a Sunday

    http://thescotsman.scotsman.com/rugby/SRU-respects-Euan-Murray39s-plan.5914448.jp

The rugby Authorities in Scotland have backed him and that is an end to this purile discusion on religion. It is immaterial if you agree or not, he is openly stating the facts and has said he will never play for Scotland again if they ask him not too because of this decision.

The decision is not yours to make, it is the clubs involved who know the situation well in advance and it is only their decision that counts, not some troll on a web forum who believes HE knows the right way for humanity. The fact you want to watch Rugby or Football or a Sunday with your hands on your pecker and a can in your hand is not at the foremost in his mind, thankfully.

If it upsets you so much, comit suicide.

Mainly directed at OP, partly directed at the rest of the trolls.

Feel free to continue the Religious debate though, a football forum is always the best place for that after all, we all know what the best thing to do is right

Doesn't mean you should do though. Or can you not take the fact that some people think differently to you?
