Pardew was never going to turn down the biggest job in world football so can't really hold that against him.

Spot on. We need continuity for once in this ****ing club's history and a manager actually seeing his contract to the end would be a godsend, especially now we have a good one.

I doubt Pardew will ever be regarded with the affection that Hughton was, but I don't think that's terribly important.

Hughton came on board when we were at out lowest, acted with quiet dignity after a year of idiots and prima donnas and grew into being a manager at the same time as the fans fell back in love with the team. And he was easy to like.

Pardew didn't have the advvantage of timing and isn't as likeable. Neither are Fergie or Wenger. He is doing well under difficult circumstances and deserves a degree of respect, which may well increase with time. But I can't see really liking him

Why dislike him? I have yet to see any particular personality trait which means that I don't like the guy. Unless I'm missing something here.

    Stupid? No
    Angry? No
    Arrogant? No
    Spiteful? No
    Egotistical? No
    ****-stirrer? No
    Two-faced? No
Talks too much? Yes, but that's probably more down to journo's than him. He just answers their questions.
    Genuine? I think so
A liar? I don't think he's ever done it on purpose.

In a word no. It has nothing to do with management ability and everything to do with Chris Hughton's humility, work ethic and dedication. Pardew is doing a great job and long may it continue but don't forget he's a slimy cockney geezer (i mean that in the nicest possible way) who's loyalty very much lies with the boardroom over the players/fans.

Agree with this. He came under dodgey circumstances but I've never understood why people dislike him personally.

I've been very pleased with his managment so far as well.

Except Hughton was born in Stratford in the East End making him a Cockney & Pardew was born in Wimbledon making him not a Cockney. <ok>

Pardew doesn't have such a humble nature, but he has confidence, and he knows that at the end of the day, it's a competitive sport. He stands up for himself and the squad. Surely that's a much better trait? He's certainly never disrespectful.

Hughton's attitude would be great if every other manager was the same, but unfortunately, they aren't. Sometimes you have to be prepared to fight fire with fire. Pardew tends to keep to himself and focuses on internal affairs, but I know that he'd easily be able to slap someone down if they disrespected the club, the players or the fans. I like that.

And I haven't seen any evidence which shows that Hughton had a better work ethic or had more dedication than Pardew does. In fact, I'd say Pardew had more dedication, as he's specifically targeted the problems we've had as a team and worked to improve them. The defensive unit and overall tactical play are just two good examples of that.

It might just be me, but I think Pardew's loyalty lies more with the fans and players. He's just stuck in a difficult situation. Can you imagine ANY manager with an ounce of common sense actually enjoying the type of restrictions Pardew has imposed on him? I suspect he finds them very aggravating - especially as he's the one likely to take the flack. At the end of the day though, it's a big job, he's stepped up and he's doing his best. The players certainly seem to respect him, and as they work with him day-in, day-out, I'm going to trust their judgement.

I don't dislike him. He's a bit smarmy but hardworking and as straightforward as his bosses will let him be. I've got nothing against him personally. I just don't find him actively likeable.

As I mentioned, though, personal likability is a very low priority in a manager

    I wish he'd stop chatting ****.

Free transfers are expensive, marking our cards, promising this, promising that, and generally coming across as a twat in every interview.

I don't see why people are so fond of Hughton. He happily went along with all the lies and misinformation from the board for over 2 years before he was sacked. Everyone seems to forget that he was a board-stooge.
It's not like he was some outstanding manager either - The team he inherited was full of Premiership quality players, who'd made themselves into a strong team after the Leyton Orient result. Anyone could have managed that team to the title.

  18. Hughton was an instantly loveable bloke.

Pardew has a decent personality, but he lacks a back bone when it comes to standing up and asking for funds and arguing with the board.

But as a coach and tactical awareness, he's been very good so far.

If he gets us in the top 10 consistently, and gets us a cup, I'll maybe love him like i loved Hughton.

I like Pardew though. Haven't got the same emotion connection to him as i did with Hughton yet though.
