There are lots of players I like but there are very few I respect. He has been a role model as a player and a person. Sad to see him go but glad he is not slipping down the leagues. Always thought he got a raw deal when he came into the team after long absences, to get dogs abuse about not being up to speed. Like all players, he needed a long run in the team to be effective. Good luck.
He epitomised for me what it meant to play in our Red&White striped. Pride, absolute commitment, never moaned to the press, a fair player, Never reacted to the morons who gave him such abuse especially in his early days. Learnt from his mistakes and gave his heart to our City and it’s supporters. I really hope he is fully rewarded in this deal and only in a couple of weeks maybe, we’ll recognise what a massive hole he will leave in our squad on his departure. All the very best Yoshie, you’ll be welcomed back here at anytime.
...and he leaves. As an aside does anyone know if Hoedt, Carrillo, Forester or Mo Eli have autobiographies? May be worth a read
Sayonara Maya, a model professional and truly honourable human being. The truth is that for your sake this move should've happened two years ago and I truly hope that you get the first team action you deserve at Samp.
Let’s try a second time! Yoshie for me epitomised what it meant to wear the Red&White stripes. Loyalty, absolute commitment in all areas as a player, on and off the field, rose above the moronic criticism, especially in the early days, represented his country with great pride and success, never moaned to the press, a fair player in his contribution as a defender, would put his body on the line whenever needed and above all, always gave me the impression he was doing and giving his absolute best. I hope he is well rewarded in this move and can only say, ‘All the very best and you’ll be welcomed back here at anytime’.
What a warrior. What a gentleman. What a human being. What a player. What a legend. What a star. What a Saint. Thank you Maya Yoshida.
Love Maya, wish he could be perfectly content being our depth CB safety net for a few more years but if he wants football then can't fault him for that in the slightest. My favourite random Maya moment was I believe last year (maybe year before), against Liverpool. I believe one of the Liverpool players had gone down softly under pressure from Maya looking for a pen and Maya was displeased, there was some minor pointing and remonstrating going on between Maya and the opponents. Cue other players coming in to get involved, have their say/separate the players. Mane came up from behind Maya and tried to yank him away by the arm, causing Maya to wrench his arm from the grasp and turn angrily. As soon as Maya saw it was Mane, his face lit up in a smile and the two of them hugged and then walked away arms-around-shoulders. Loyal and strong competitor, but just a lovely, friendly man.
Never saw that one coming. Great servant and the model professional. Surprised he never got a run in the side when we were struggling to find a back 4 that worked but in Ralph we trust. Hope it works out for him in Italy.
Wish nothing but the best for Maya's future. Naturally he's joining Samphampton, your one-stop shop for ex-Saints players.
I think his last game was the cup win over Huddersfield...not the Leicester game which shall not be mentioned
