Arsenal fan here.

Just wanted to see what you guys think about us potentially getting Cedric Soares. Will he be a good player for us? What are his best/worst attributes?

I have to be honest and say this one came out the blue. I also don't think it's a signing that we desperately need to make, either, as we have other problem areas that need resolving urgently. Fullback isn't one of those areas, but Arteta and the club seem to think otherwise, so what do I know?

I doubt he'll be a first-team regular, but we play in quite a few competitions so he should definitely get a lot of game time.

Anyways, what can you guys tell me about him?

Inconsistant and you will get frustrated with his service from the wings I suspect. Probably had one good season in his time here and has had many critics among Saints fans so I guess that Arsenal fans won't think he's good enough for them, much like Martina at Everton.

 

He’s quick, can’t fault his work rate, likes to get forward, even Jesus couldn’t get on the end of one of his crosses. He’s actually been one of our most consistent players recently - consistently okay. Not great, not terrible, okay.

Thanks for the info guys. As I said, he probably won't be starting regularly for us anyway. You guys reckon he's a decent back-up player to have?

And is he any good defensively?

 

I've been reading through the comments as it was as much a surprise to me as many others. The only conclusion I can come to as both sets fans have faith in our managers, who (I think) would have been involved in the negotiations is, to get behind the team and player whilst reserving the the right to winge, moan and question the sanity of anyone involved should the slightest of errors be perceived.

 

Can be good and bad, crossing is terrible though. Positioning can often be suspect too.

Decent enough PL player but not good enough for where you want to be imo.

 

Anyway I wish him all the best, as been said he's been very hit and miss but we'll always have that wonderful goal at Fratton.

Good points - you'll always get 110%, very quick.
Bad points - his crossing, I wouldn't trust the lad to deliver a ****ing pizza!

Being perfectly honest, Cedric is absolute garbage as a defender and he often pauses to check his hair is in place before committing to a tackle, which often results in a 'studs in the nuts' impact and the inevitable red card. He also upsets the balance of our defence so much (when he's not suspended) because his vision is impaired and he has a pronounced limp due to one leg being shorter than his other short leg.

Do yourself a favour and give Mikel Arteta an urgent call and warn him that he is about to take on a dud, and to think again. Just leave him here because we know how to look after the guy and we like Arsenal so wouldn't want to burden you with Cedric.

For me he's always been a good player he's just bee suffering from the same lack of form and confidence, especially in defence, as the rest of the team over the last couple of years. Also I cant remember Cedric ever having a red card with us?
