Well looks like Evans finally got striker he wanted to replace Eaves. Akinde was always his first choice had to get Mandron as he couldn't get Akinde in the summer. Looks like we also paid a fee for him. Let's hope he can score the goals than Hanlan could not.

I think he will fit in well, a bit of a target man that others can feed off and he knows how to hit the net as well, goals and assists just what the doc ordered

Think this was a big two fingers up at @alwaysright for moaning about Mr Scally not putting his hand in his pocket. Within an hour of always' post, Akinde was announced <laugh>

    I'm not into fishing !
We scored from a corner - AND - profited from an O'Gilvie throw-in for a change....... so - where are we ? - exactly where we were in November, when we last lost in the league - floating !--------------- hang on a minute - I seem to recall writing the 2nd half of the above in a previous post !

I'm not actually complaining --- it's quite pleasing to see that we're becoming a bit better at not losing...... AND -- the fact that Roberts was able to profit from an assist from a proper target man, vindicates my suggestion that we needed an Akinde-type forward to win the ball from throw-ins -------------- as for the goal from a corner - that's what might happen if we can get the ball past the first defender !........................................

I'll have to watch my back when I'm around Priestfield -- in case Scally mugs me for the money he's spent (( you do realise that the money used for player recruitment is what we fans give to the Club )) ............... now -Float off

    ps - I am NOT Gills61 !!

Blimey, I'd forgot all about that song! Anyway, we were very lucky today, to me it looked as though Rochdale should have had a blatant penalty a shove in the box by Ogilvie at 2-2.

    Yep

It's the first game that I can remember that BOTH sets of supporters were singing about the poor quality of refereeing (words chosen so as not to offend..). The free kick that led to Rochdale's second goal should never have been given. You win some, you lose some, but it would be better if you didn't have to.

Anyhow, on to Akinde. At first it was pretty obvious that he hadn't had the chance to train with the rest of the squad, and in the first half there were occasions when another player went to the ball as well as him (brave, given his physical presence!) and others when passes were played to where he wasn't, or by him to where other players weren't. Frustrating, but understandable, and overall his effort level was good. Things improved as time went on, and in the second half there was a better understanding. Instruction - if Akinde is on or near the ball, it's his. Get out of his way.

First impressions aren't always accurate, though comments were made among us that he probably did more work in the first half than JET did during his whole time at the club. When he gets fully match fit and gets to know the team better, and if he maintains that workrate then he'll be a useful handful for opposing defences. And if that means that other players can also profit from less attention then that'll be a result.

I'd like to think he's been set a target of, say, 10 goals and 5+ assists for the rest of the season. If he reaches that, and keeps it going next season, which on first viewing he's got the potential to do, I'd say it'll money well spent.

Saw Akinde first time tonight and was impressed. Won penalty with speed and strength. Looks ideal replacement for Eaves.

Excellent story. Good to see a player these days, that is not all about money. One thing I've learned in life, there are many more things important than money, and for a 30 year old player, young in my terms, but older at this sport level, it's good the lad has his priorities right, and I wish him all the best at our club.

I reckon he will turn out to be a good signing. It's a shame we didnt get hold of him a few years back when he was at Barnet. I'd be surprised if he is on much more than 4k so the taking a drop story seems believable.

Pretty sure he did take pay cut. Not sure if it was half though. Maybe will get big bonus if we make play offs or promotion whist at club
