Before this season started I'd have went Rafa. To be honest now I'd be kinda meh. They are much of a muchness despite Bruce amassing more points. I think if you let them loose over the course of 10 seasons, some years Bruce would do better, some years Rafa would do better. Bruce would have more desire to move the football forward I think, Rafa isn't ever going to change playing defensive counter attack, he's too long in the tooth now. He has spent his whole career playing slightly different versions of the same style. As he gets better players he opens up a little, but its still the same defence first mentality. Problem is I think Bruce is good at the defensive side and would have his worst season when he tried to be more attacking and would end up quickly reverting. Its happened at a few clubs he's been at.

If we seriously are getting bought soon (I'm not a believer), and the rumours are true I will be immediately disappointed in the new owners lack of ambition. Going for Rafa before the managers we could entice with the potential money?

Yeah, Rafa is a good shock managerial appointment when we're ****ing 18th. But not when you've just been bought by the Saudi Sovereign Fund for Christ sake. Why would ambitious owners go for a manager who hasn't done a more than mediocre job since 2007?

    This.

Pochettino, please. Argies do well with us. Coloccini. Erm. Cordone. Errrr. Maradona? Think he played for us. And Beardsley.

100% agree. If the new owners had future ambition they’d go for someone like Poch, even Allegri. I do feel a bit for Bruce though, he’s probably sat thinking “aye I’ve done a canny job mind” then he goes home and sees his predecessor is back linked with his job!

He has done a good job, and I also feel sorry for him. I actually think he should be in charge for a transitional period and given a little bit of cash to spend, I think we shouldn't just become a club who think "right, you're done boyo, off you go."

See how he does, let everything get settled in a little. He will never be a world beater, but he should be given at least some opportunity to have a pop.

Agreed. I know some take the piss when you say about his geordie roots keeping him in the job or not but I do think that should be taken into account in some way. He does genuinely want what’s best for HIS club. Something we haven’t had since Sir Bobby. His talent as a manager is mediocre but his passion to do what’s best for Newcastle United is there, which is extremely important to our club in my opinion.

Went with Rafa on the basis that it would be under new ownership, otherwise I’d stick with Bruce.

Heard a lad say at work earlier (work in Birmingham) if toon get took over he’s going to start going to the games as he went to Northumbria uni so he thinks that a good reason to be a “geordie” ridiculous. Support where you’re from man, some are lucky some aren’t, that’s football.
Still baffles me how anyone can get passionate about a team when they were born somewhere completely different with no family ties either.

what you been smoking Willis? Now I know you are on the wum fella... <laugh>

it matters not where a fan is from. It’s about how much a fan loves the club.

I know loads of fans from all over the country who are neither better or worse fans than the next one who may have been born on barrack road.

I also know lads from away games who fly in from Norway, Sweden and Holland to watch most games and it’s like me saying a ST holder who doesn’t go to away games isn’t a patch on those lads.

hell, half the lads on here (as you will clearly know) weren’t born in Newcastle. A real Toon fan would welcome more fans being interested in the club as it’s good for our future financial prospects...

:emoticon-0102-bigsm if they have genuine love for the club fair enough. In that sense then more the merrier. I think I’m just going off how I am myself, like say if I supported Liverpool. I wouldn’t get excited for Saturday afternoons, I wouldn’t even be arsed cause there’d be no passion! If they lost I’d not give a ****. So my bad for presuming that’s the same for others like:emoticon-0102-bigsm

I'm Northern Welsh mate, I spend most of my time thinking about Newcastle United and I care a great deal about the club and the fans. I absolutely love Newcastle United, no matter what **** happens. I've supported them since the day I got into football and I saw them on the telly as a lad. I have no idea why, just something in my head said "that's my team." And that was that.

It's the mark of a big club, supporters from all over. I live in Norway now, I know a couple Leeds fans, cos they are a big club. And Newcastle are the same, I've meet Norwegians who support Newcastle - despite everything, even a lad who stitched the Newcastle emblem on his traditional graduation clothes. In my experience and opinion, passion doesn't come from living there, it comes from how the club connects to you.
