Well we all know that Brendan Rodgers scouting is "who have Southampton got" so I reckon the Vestergaard rumour is true
It’s been well documented, even by the club themselves, that we have to sell to buy. Vestergaard is not a Ralph signing and was given his chances to impress, which he didn’t. I think if the club can get back what they spent on him, he will be gone. Will we get a similar offer if we wait until the summer? With this money they would have enough to buy the CB from Sociedad and Maehle, with wages covered from Vestergaard and the free transfer of Cedric in the summer. Plus if they can do a bit of good business now, it would be better than having to do it all in the summer.
So Leicester offered some whiteboard pens and an Amazon giftcard, and we want a BMX with that as well.
I agree. But I would be shocked if Leicester offered that much. I'm not in that big a hurry to see Vestergaard gone. He's not a bad player. He was IMO, the best of our CB's during the first part of the season. I'm not arguing that he should start, but I feel like if we had an injury and had to play Vestergaard, he'd do okay. If the price is right, say 15m+, yeah let him move on (though I don't think we'd get 15m for him either). If we have a ready replacement picked out, then we can sell him for less. But otherwise, nothing wrong with keeping him. We don't even have our player trader/acquisition guru on board yet, do we? So to me it's worth hanging on to Vestergaard until the summer, even if we settle for a bit less, because then we'll have a better idea of the market and will be less likely to make a bad mistake.
I really hope that we don't haggle too much over the fee so it doesn't happen. Not really sure why Leicester want him tbh but get him off the wagebill before they change their mind ffs!
Rumours that Leeds have come back with a new offer for Adams. £10 million upfront with another £10million in the summer. Not dependant on promotion??
I would certainly keep Adams but really would snap Fox’s paws off if they get to £20m, that would be hilarious
Am i the only one who thinks Vesty is actually worth hanging onto even if a bid like that came in. He has made a mistake or two but has also had some quality games stopping a lot of peoples crosses into the box. Does anyone have any stats on how many of his mistakes have lead to goals or is this simply from the leicester and palace game?
Burnley as well, Cardiff last season, sure there's others. He just terrifies me in general and dives in way too much for my liking given it tends to completely take him out of the game. Way I see it is we have 5 CB's and yet most people would have a starting CB near the top of the transfer on the list. Given we need to trim the wage bill before signing anyone, and we've struggled to offload others, I think we'd be mad to pass up the opportunity personally.
The problem for me is that when he does make a mistake, it usually results in a goal. In my opinion, he is too slow for the Premier League despite the high advantage. He has not been too impressive going forward either and I cannot recall his causing much aerial threat in the penalty box for corners either. Of the central defenders in the squad, I felt Hoedt probably had an attitude and felt he was better than he was but Vestergaard seemed more likely of the two to be error prone. I recognise the need for cover in this position , especially in the light of injuries and cannot say Danso looks all that. However, back in the summer Vestergaard was one of those players most people in here wanted rid of. To be offered the £16 million quoted is certainly more than most of us thought we would get. I would bite Leicester's hand off. I see Spurs are looking for a new striker. Couldn't we offer them Carillo?
No disagreement. We play a style that will, at times, expose our CBs. It's a tough job, but awareness and mobility are paramount, and I don't see any great reserve of either in Vestergaard. I understand that no one wants further upheaval, but with our resources so restricted, any chance we get to move on from "sometimes okay" and (hopefully) put those resources toward a player who might be better warrant taking.
He gets way too much **** on this board, in my opinion. He looks a lot worse than he actually plays. Still, he is at best... okay. He’s the kind of player to me where I don’t mind having him on the team, but I think he can also be replaced, and probably by someone cheaper if the front office is good. I would sell him for a decent price because I think Yoshida is a solid enough backup, plus we have Danso. If we didn’t need the money so bad, I’d be more okay with keeping Vestergaard as he doesn't appear to be causing unhappiness in the locker room and it would be nice to keep a little stability. But if we have to sell to buy, we can’t afford anyone who isn’t playing up to or better than their salary, and Vestergaard is a little overpaid for his role. I just don’t think we need to sell him now if he isn’t asking to go. I’m still not quite sold on Stephens. See how the rest of the season shakes out, and if at that point he is hardly playing then deal him.
Struggled to sell any player for the last couple of years, then start winning a few games and look what happens. But in all seriousness, if this is a true offer it would need serious consideration, especially if PEH has no intention of signing a new contract this season. Wasn’t there a rumour that there is some kind of agreement that he could leave if a very good offer came in? £35 million for a player with 12 months left on his contract is a very good offer imho.
I’d explain the Morgan situation to PEH, show him a few clips of how Everton play and then watch PEH unpack his bags and sign a new contract. if he doesn’t sign a new contract soon, 35mil is a fair price for the summer.
