Yeah, suspect that's part of it, but we had great deals offered for Derby and WBA earlier in the season and it bumped it up to 12-13k, but nothing like this, can only hope its a good game, people enjoy it and keep coming back
I still think it's more than just the prices that have led to this sell-out, though the cost is undoubtedly attractive. The club seems to have reached a watershed and this fixture has been enough to encourage stay-away fans - who may be staying away because of price, the standard of football, the ownership or any of many other reasons - to give City another try. It is absolutely critical that the club don't **** it up somehow and inadvertently turn people away. They have form!
It has always been a football city. Hull and East Riding is the largest FA in the country, Hull Sunday League was, and maybe still is, the largest in the country, far, far more football teams at adult and youth levels than rugby league. Before they altered the England Supporters Travel Club set up you were asked which league team you supported. Hull City had the second most behind West Ham. Pubs are far more packed for football internationals than rugby ones, football games involving football not clubs from Hull are sadly more full than with people watching than they are for games involving rugby clubs not from Hull. Unfortunately being a football city does not translate to being a Hull City one. Too many support clubs from other cities, or, even worse, a local rugby club along with a football club from elsewhere, or just aren’t interested. It has always been my opinion having 2 rugby clubs for years before we had a football one has held City back. Look at Derby, which is a football city where everyone associates with their team, with a similar population. Their crowds don’t fluctuate like our as there aren’t rugby clubs taking money away or as an option for easy glory, big fish in a puddle syndrome, if the football club is going through a bad spell.
Fair post.. I recall going down to Londidium to see City playing at Brentford, last game of season about 10 years ago. Train was half empty until it got to Peterborough where about 2000 Chelsea fans got on...I recall the City fan with me at the time giving them some ear ache. It was funny.
For anyone without a ticket it seems the best way to watch the game live on TV is to subscribe to BT Sports for £25 per month with no contract - or get to the pub. What, if any, are the other options (forget about the virus infected free streams with dodgy pop-ups). I know this has been covered before somewhere but what's the score with VPN's? Not a bad price £25 to see Bowen's last minute winner.
Thing is though I reckon a lot of those Chelsea lads would be Londoners who can't afford to live anywhere nice in London so they commute every day to work. Same for a lot of Spurs and Arsenal fans too I'd guess.
May have been the case. I know a Liverpool season ticket holder who lives in Torquay. As we know.. All the big clubs have their glory hunters.
So, the fact a game is in TV won’t be proffered as an explanation for a low gate in the future? Or that it isn’t a 3 o’clock kick off?
Never DID push on, things are changing and the city is on the rise. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
When gates have been low being on TV has been given as a reason. As has kick off times.Yet those things seem to have had no effect for this game. So presumably they won’t be used in future. Though it still leaves just before Hull Fair, just after Hull Fair, just before Christmas, just after Christmas, evening kick offs and kiddies have to be at school, Bank Holidays and people being away, school holidays, more to do in Hull than other places...
How sure are we that it has sold out because of City fans and locals? Could it be that there will be thousands of Chelsea fans in the home end (of course I'm sure they would be quickly removed by the stewards!)?
They said before the Man Utd v Man City game that any Man City fans showing vocal support or wearing colours in home areas would be ejected. We are asked to respect away fans in home areas. We even have our own fans arguing with other fans and defending their right to be there.
