    He may genuinely be unable to answer questions about the "legal obligation" to buy the land in six months time. That will be a cause for concern.

    Now he has told a porky/misled the fans he is now on the back foot.

    Once somebody tells me a whopper I find it almost impossible to trust them again.

    Get Bowyer signed up.

    Give them the tools to avoid relegation.

    Get The Valley and Sparrows Lane in our name COMPLETELY.

    Then hopefully by the opening day of the season we'll have a fresh start to look forward to.

    A shame they have failed miserably so far.

    I don't side with all the cobblers as only being here 18 days. They could have got the wheels in motion with contracts before EFL approval then had things rubber stamped soon after.

    Difficult to understand - no.
    What I would question though, is why were these science resources not sent 2 weeks ago and what.message does that send.to your current medical staff that have been flogging their guts.out for 2.months??

    That they're useless.

    Given our recovery time track record it's hard to argue with that.

    The impression given a while ago was that Lee Bowyer's future was a big factor when talking to potential signings.

    That's the deal I most want to see done this week - preferably in a day or two.
    Even if the terms have changed somewhat, and the contract turns out to be three years maybe instead of five.
    Getting LB signed up will surely be a big step towards getting player deals over the line.

    ~~~~~~~~
    Unless of course, the lack of a signature on that deal has something to do with a story Reams has hinted at on ITTV about some new people coming in, who are going to do the 'day-to-day' running of the Club.
    Reams has not identified them, but some have speculated it might be Mehmet Dalman and/or Neil Warnock from Cardiff City.
    Reams has said that one of the people he believes is coming in would be able to take over as manager if the situation called for it.
    That is a pretty provocative thing to say.
    I know some will believe Reams is just winding people up.
    But perhaps he does know something.
    Assuming it is true - if the role of these 'new people' (whoever they are) includes overseeing the manager, and if for some reason they don't want Lee Bowyer to remain in that post beyond this summer, that could mean trouble at the worst possible time.
    A dispute now, right at the sharp end of the January transfer window, that might see Bowyer forced out or walk away. I can't think of anything more damaging that could happen between now and February 1st.
    I am speculating of course, and I hope this is wild and baseless speculation - as I have no information at all.
    I'm just trying to join dots based on what Reams has hinted at, and events as they stand.
    Right now we have
    • No new players signed since 1st January.
    • No contract signed yet for Bowyer
    • Some new people possibly coming in to run the Club on a day-to-day basis.
    Every day that passes without some solid news of what is happening will increase concern and speculation.
    PS:
    Apologies if this post is slightly off-topic in this thread.
    Perhaps I should have posted it in the 'transfer rumours' thread.
    But if there are new people going to be appointed soon who'll be working at the Valley on day-to-day business, Matt Southall must surely know about it.
    He has said nothing on the subject (indeed all I have on it are the hints Reams has given on ITTV) but people coming in like that - especially if they are high profile - will be a major new development.
    Interesting @lardiman
    I’ve heard similar. When the people telling you are the ones who also said the Aussies were chancers, it’s always worth listening.
    Just to add I cannot say I'm much interested in swapping Bowyer for warnock. Bowyer has been battling against the odds with th einjuries, and has shown he can get a lot out of the players he is given. Who knows what Warnock would do.
    Matt Southall, the new chairman of Charlton Athletic, has outlined his vision for the club following the completion earlier this month of an Al Ain-based consortium’s purchase of the Championship side.
    East Street Investments’ takeover was approved by the Football League on January 2, with the new owners seeking to first secure Charlton’s place this season in the second tier of English football before pushing forward with plans of gaining promotion to the Premier League.
    Currently, the London club sit 19th in the Championship. They last participated in the English top flight in 2007.
    In an interview with The National, Southall said the club are in the process of strengthening the squad this window, with talks also progressing “very positively” with manager Lee Bowyer regarding a new contract.
    Asked about remaining in the Championship this season, Southall said: “That's the short-term goal. I’ll be honest, I am very, very confident. Relegation isn’t on our agenda. When we had a full squad of fit players, we were fourth in the league and getting results against Leeds United, West Brom, all theses big, big clubs who were tipped to go up.
    “We were second favourites to get relegated this season, so we proved everyone wrong at the beginning of the season.”
    Looking beyond this campaign, Southall said the new owners are focusing on improving significantly the infrastructure around the club, with plans in place for a training complex that encompasses close to 40 acres.
    A three-story development, it will include three artificial and eight full-size pitches, upgrading the facility's current status from Category 2 to Category 1. Work is scheduled to begin this summer and is expected to be complete within 18 months.
    “That’s exciting for us, and it obviously shows our intent in building for the future,” Southall said. “As long as I leave the club in a better place than when I got here, for me that’s my job done. So bringing through players is a high priority.
    "But, again, there’s commercial revenues that we’re severely down on that we’re looking at bringing in partnerships in the Middle East, and at player trading.
    New Charlton chairman Matt Southall has described manager Lee Bowyer as a 'club legend'. PA
    “My ambition for next season is we want to be pushing for the play-offs; we need to be competitive. I'm not going to sit here and say, ‘We're going to get promoted within “X” amount of time’ because that's mismanaging people's expectations and we're setting a target that we may or not may not hit.
    “Ultimately, everybody that gets involved in a club or owns the club, through investment or whatever, they want to get to the Premier League. But it's making sure that the whole infrastructure is ready for that.”
    As long as I leave the club in a better place than when I got here, for me that’s my job done. So bringing through players is a high priority
    Southall said Bowyer, 43, is a vital part of the club’s ambitious plans. A former Charlton midfielder, he took charge initially as caretaker in March 2018 before guiding his side to promotion from last season's League One via the play-offs. He has been offered a five-year contract.
    “I always let Lee know from the outset: he was an integral part of us coming in, as I’ve said before," Southall said. “What he’s done... he’s taken over as interim manager, and then his first full season he managed to lift the spirits.
    “I was looking at the stats: our average attendance last season was 19,000, and it’s gradually increasing. The season before it was 13,000. That’s no coincidence, with the style of football Lee's playing and the success he’s had last season and then moving it on.
    “Before I came in, I had a vision of how I wanted to run the club. Being a community club, it’s needs to be sustainable and it needs to be sensible. And Lee gets it. He’s used to working within constrained budgets.
    “I know if I put him in front of a player he will sell the club to that player. Lee’s a legend; he’s played at Newcastle [United], Leeds [United], and he’s a good guy. He will move the club forward.”
    Tahnoon Nimer, chairman of Abu Dhabi Business Development (ADBD) - the private office of Sheikh Saeed bin Tahnoun – and the majority shareholder in East Street Investments, has taken his place on the new board as a director, alongside ADBD chief executive Jonathan Heller.
    Matt Southall is due to meet the Fans Groups on Friday night.
    No surprise to see the Museum Director has muscled his way in ...at least we can rely on Hayes to ask Matt Southall a tough opening question -
    “Would you like a lager top as you are driving Matt?”
    The "Meet and greet" invitation has been extended by ESI PR advisor Paul McCarthy, in order to reconnect with the fan base.
    Oh dear. The place to reconnect with the fan base is on the pitch, by keeping players like Conor Gallagher and Josh Cullen, and getting more in, the type of players the fans can cheer on. We'll see how it goes but it sounds a bit fans forum with Ms Meire so far. It's pretty basic, really, we want to see the ball hit the back of the net, and win games.
    This is just another platform for the wannabes to arselick Southall.
    The man who labelled Robinson as “Tarbuck” on CL ...yet was the first to rush to buy him a drink at the Fans meeting.
    I bet Everitt is not there, that will be a shame.
    Southall should at least end up doing a circuit of meetings with various fan groups. I am sceptical as to what will come of this meeting, fans need to be allowed to ask a follow up question. Southall knows what is coming.
    This thread is labelled Matt Southall 'out of his depth'
    In order to be 'out of your depth', you need to be 'in your depth' to start with.....!! Unfortunately, this individual does not qualify. He started badly, and then got worse. He is an ex football agent, what does that tell you?? That he is in it for himself and nobody else; closely associated with the individual who tried to buy Bolton (cannot recall his name). The only 'good' thing he has done during his tenure is 'mix it' with the fans, and that does not come across as genuine, rather akin to politicians shaking hands with people they do not know, but there in the hope that they get the necessary goodwill and subsequent votes.
    10 days to go before the window shuts; no players in, but we are down by two. On the fringe of the relegation zone; due to play a very important match with Fulham, and we have to do it with academy hopefuls and players coming back from injury.
    Manager and staff yet to sign their respective contracts. 2 weeks ago Bowyer stated that 'one or two calls' should see it through. Progress, none.
    A week ago Southall tweeted 'deals imminent' Progress, none
    The new owner has stated that new medical staff are coming in from Abu Dhabi to look at our lengthy injury list. A slap in the face for those currently in situ. They will probably be sacked.
    Many of us are concerned regarding the unanswered questions revolving around the 'ownership' of the Valley and other related matters. Our Chairman continually swerves around questions put to him, and no doubt, will continue in the same vein when he is due to meet supporters on Friday; he needs to give straight and direct, not to say honest, answers to these questions. He says he is transparent; but how many layers are there to this particular individual?
    Would you currently buy a 'used car' (or any car) from this dubious individual, or would you prefer to keep your hard earned cash in your pocket for the foreseeable future?
    Charlton supporters have a great many decisions to make now and in the immediate future; be aware of those around you......
