This is a forum where differing opinions should normally be allowed to be posted. 'Great' compared to what? Like all major towns Watford has evolved as per the changing needs of the local inhabitants. I prefer to live in the countryside but Watford is a pleasant place to visit for shopping, football, restaurants, pubs etc etc. I always find the traffic flows well even on football days. I will be leaving soon to visit our favourite restaurant for breakfast, maybe a pint in the Red Lion then on to my excellent seats to watch the Horns. I can see why Watford is such a sought after location to live.
Morning all. A cold night with no cloud cover, and when the street lights went out at 10.00pm no light pollution. My brother in law who lives in Oxhey tells me that at night there is a glow in the sky from the Vicarage Road grass growing lights. With all of the street lights in town that are lighting the sky, they must be very bright. It is very bright outside here now, with a clear blue sky, and I must work out how to organize my day with a lunchtime kick off. Good chance for the Canaries to pick up some points today Dave.
I do miss seeing stars, one of the first things I do when I head home is go for a night walk round the village. London isn't great for it...
The area around the High Street has the second highest crime rate for small towns in the south of England SH. Only Union Street in Portsmouth is higher. The place is a ....ing dump. It does not cater for the locals of the town at all and it is almost out of bounds for anyone over 30 being there after about 9pm. There are indeed many young nocturnal visitors but they are, mostly, not locals.
Morning all. It would appear that I am the first person up and about in our hamlet this morning, with all the houses still shuttered. I cannot blame them as it is cloudy and there is a cold northerly wind blowing. I certainly wouldn't be up if it were not that Sunday in the month when the football diners meet. In December things were looking bleak for Watford, but I said with fingers crossed that they would pull through. I think that I had better keep the fingers crossed as it is a different picture now. Have a good day whatever you are doing.
Morning all. Another frosty one. We have a tip run followed by doing planning permission forms for veluxes in our French house... Frenchie, Mme and you must come over for un repas this summer... Later we have family ten pin bowling.... I am officially the worst male so no doubt my team partners will not be happy Good result yesterday... onwards and upwards
I go to Watford to watch football. Occasionally I go shopping there. The pubs are generally below average, a travesty for a town with a rich brewing history. Transport links are nowhere near as good as they ought to be (are they anywhere?) and the traffic is awful. Rickmansworth and Croxley Green get more of my match day business.
I must admit I had a bad fall on Thursday, fell off the back of a stool in McDonald's, landed on the base of my spine then carried on backwards and smacked the back of my head on the floor. I needed that result to give me a lift. I hope when we come to the Vic that you are well safe and can return the favour we afforded you at CR
I hope that you have recovered from the fall Dave. Seeing as the UK gets more like the USA everyday, you must be able to make a claim against McDonald's for providing unsafe seating. There must be plenty of American lawyers who would take the case up, that is if they are not too busy with trying to stop someone else falling from grace.
