    Indeed.
Unfortunately for him, he did that PR interview which could turn out to be a PR disaster.
1).Lied about owning the ground - think his words were "lock stock and barrell"??
2). implied that it was LB that didn't want.to sort his contract out until end of Jan.
3). Said reason Training ground wasn't part of the initial deal was they didn't have time and wanted to concentrate on January transfer window - well 18 days in and no deals done yet Mr Chairman - apart from the 2 players that have left.

It's the mixed messages that are troubling.

Bowyer possible will not sign until he sees some actions in the transfer window.
The way some fans were talking about us being the next Man City was embarrassing, when no real mention of the money behind us was made clear.
I have the feeling Bowyer isn’t completely sold on what’s going on and is keeping his powder dry
My boner at the start is beginning to turn into a lazy lob at best, brewers droop is setting in

Matt Southall has meetings with fans groups scheduled for the end of this week. If we go past the Fulham game without a win and without desperately needed new players, I think the PR force field will be well and truly penetrated by fan’s frustration.

This is Southall’s Charlton CV to date:

    • Joe Ledley signed & left
    • No contract for Lyle Taylor
    • No contract for Lee Bowyer
    • No Valley or Sparrows Lane “yet”
    • Maddison deal fallen through
    • Gallagher allowed to leave
All we have seen is one average loan signing in, two other players leave, and a lot of hot air.

    Plus comments like -

    1) we can only spend within the constraints of Financial Fair Play
    2) I will have to make some decisions that the fans will not like....??? … why say that in your first communication with the fans?

Matt makes a big deal of being at the games.... but so was the Nightmare when she was CE... that fact alone doesn't mean you make good decisions mate!

As I have said before, what worries me is Bow's comments after his first meeting with Matt, "some of the new owners plans are strange"... I know he clarified those comments later on but strange was his initial conclusion!.... plus how long will it be before we are told that His Excellency can only spend 5% of his time thinking about Charlton?

Tahnoon Nimer: We’ll use technology to help make Charlton Athletic stronger – we have five-year plan for the club
    19th January 2020 Richard Cawley 0 Comments
    BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Tahnoon Nimer is determined to make Charlton Athletic supporters “happy” – and says East Street Investments will be at the cutting edge of technology and development.

ESI acquired the South London club off of Belgian Roland Duchatelet earlier this month.

And Syrian businessman Nimer is the majority shareholder in ESI. Matt Southall is responsible for the day-to-day running of the Addicks as he combines being both chairman and operating in a chief executive role.

Nimer says that ESI will be flying in specialists from the UAE to help solve the injury issues that have hugely disrupted Charlton’s Championship campaign.

The Addicks made an excellent start to the season and were looking as if they could be in the play-off mix. But a horrendous pile up of injuries – at its peak ruling out 13 or 14 players at one time – has seen their form nosedive with fears they could be in for a battle to safety.

Nimer said: “The first stage is a five-year vision for Charlton. We will plan carefully and with responsibility and we will try never to make the same mistakes that were made before.

“I have studied the history of the club and what it means to the supporters. The important thing is to make sure we do everything we can to make them happy.

“If they are happy, they will come to the matches in big numbers, which will inspire the players. If the players are inspired, then we will be successful.

“We are already considering the best way we can help Charlton. That is not always about spending lots of money, but about being at the forefront of technology and development.

“For example, we know there have been lots of injuries recently. So we will be speaking to the best private clinic in the UAE and taking specialists to London to run tests on the players to see if there are reasons behind those injuries. If there are, then we will use the knowledge these specialists possess to try and prevent a repeat.

“We are very serious about taking this club forward. That will be done with responsibility and planning. That is why we have targeted an initial five-year vision.”

Nimer was speaking to The National, the Middle East’s leading English language news service. A more in-depth interview will be published by them soon.

Let's add a bit of balance to this shall we...
    • Joe Ledley signed & left ... granted desperation signing. Bowyer embarrassed himself talking the bloke up.
    • No contract for Lyle Taylor ... Taylor turned down 16K per week. He wants to leave, and you've never liked him anyway. Let him go.
    • No contract for Lee Bowyer ... Not true (maybe you just forgot the word "signed"). They are still negotiating.
    • No Valley or Sparrows Lane “yet” ... Not true either. The Valley stadium & Sparrows lane do belong to ESI. No land purchase yet.
    • Maddison deal fallen through ... The bloke is a prick. We don't need billy big-bollox players like him.
    • Gallagher allowed to leave ... Another misrepresentation. We had no power to stop Gallagher leaving.

    Sounds reasonable enough to me.

Granted, applying science resources to our injury crisis will not immediately help Charlton to climb the table to safety.
Only three or four good quality (and match-sharp) players will do that.

But I see nothing difficult to understand about this statement.

    @lardiman

Lyle Taylor - no problem letting him go in January IF we adequately replace him. Matt Southall offered £325,000 for the Blackpool lad. Shirt buttons.

Lee Bowyer - the man said himself that there were elements in the offer that were “strange”. It’s still not signed. It’s damaging our ability to attract new players.

Maddison - being outbid by Birmingham again doesn’t suggest much about the ESI largesse.

Gallagher - bizarre comment. Our best player. We were ragged without him yesterday. CG did not want to leave. Swansea paid Chelsea a loan fee and a bigger % of his wages - Matt was in Abu Dhabi at the time. Why didn’t we try to match it? Where’s the replacement for CG ?

Thanks to Duchatelet we are struggling in the bottom 6 with a piss-poor squad.
Chelsea want Gallagher to be playing with better players around him.
And somebody at Swansea (I don't give a f**k who) is a mate of Lampard <hug>

I'll admit we might have tried harder to keep Gallagher, but in the end we probably would have lost him anyway.

This is why I HATE us having to rely so heavily on loan signings.
They are a quick fix to cover cracks caused by long term lack of investment and poor stewardship.

Loanees have their uses, but (like our academy kids) we rely on them far, far too much.

    Then let me explain Lardi,

The Statement is clear enough but the content is confusing, if you buy a house where the previous owner has not spent on keeping the premises up to date (think Slaphead's car) then when you buy it you have two options... waste money on maintaining what is already there... or … spend money wisely on bringing the house up to standard. At present Charlton has a massive hole in the roof because of the previous owners negligence, there is no point patching it, we need a new roof and FAST!

But the statement does not say ESI won't bother buying three or four decent players in this transfer window.

It is indicating a longer term commitment, but it doesn't say que sera sera for this season.
I'm keeping faith until February 1st.

The Statement says "That is not always about spending lots of money" …. but... unfortunately, because of the previous owners actions, that is exactly what is required at present.

All this talk about bringing in Technology & Specialists from Arabia is fluff... we need good players now, not Doctors!

My distinguished predecessor @AllHellLetLoose hit the nail on the head with the word “fast”.

Matt Southall needed to hit the ground running on Jan 1st. Not January 31st.

We have since taken 1 point from 2 league games, and gone out of the FA Cup.

If other clubs ramped up the prices on 1st Jan because they knew that we were desperate, what must they think now.

Matt Southall has been far too slow.

I can see this meeting with the fans is going to be interesting.

Southall will have his answers prepared for the first question, hopefully a follow up question will be allowed to see what he has got to say for himself.

If the follow up question is allowed that will be the stinger. Southall would not be having a prepared answer.
