Ollie Clarke - 27 year old midfielder at Bristol Rovers. Over 200 career appearances for them since 2009.
Duchatelet level signings, both of them. Not good enough. Clarke-Harris might be OK, but still not the level what we should be looking at. Would be better than nobody at all I suppose.
I can’t comment, as I haven’t seen either play and I don’t want @DickPlumb telling me off. But Alan Nixon is a good source, and this would seem to be the level we are shopping at under ESI in January.
If these are the kind of players we are chasing, then I'm not going to bother arguing that they represent a clear improvement over anything LB and SG would have got if the take-over had never happened. And if the money spent is only within the old RD budget, that makes a nonsense of the claim ESI had to take over quickly in order to use the January transfer window to save our season. The last 3 months of 2019-20 will be a nerve-wracking grind of six pointers, with plenty of discontent at ESI and Southall rumbling away in the background as well. And will Bowyer sign his 5 year contract? The longer time passes without a signature, the less likely it becomes.
Bonne was a gamble - one that came off (until he got injured anyway). He wasn't even supposed to be a starting XI player this season. How many other iffy 'on the cheap' signings have not worked out? Plenty. We cannot afford to bring in five or six ifs/buts/maybes in January, and have only one of them turn out to be any good. Charlton will be back in League One.
These signings don't look inspiring, but if they help us finish the season in 21st place that will keep the wolf from the door. Judge them when you see them. Who would have thought Bonne would be far superior to Hemed?
We wouldn't bring in five or six ifs/buts/maybes …. we would bring in two maybe three, even if they were untried. Perhaps Lockyer has recommended them?
Charlie Austin & Glenn Murray are the calibre of player we need to be signing. Players with a bit of presence & pedigree, who can hit the ground running.
Murray has a 1 in 2.5 games goal ratio. Get him in and hopefully that would be a big help in staying up.
@Beware of the Virus Rare serious question. An “Operation Huddersfield” is being suggested for 29 Feb given the importance of the game. Do you think we would take 4,000 up, if the club made an effort?
