Upcoming African players should be fuming. The PL is the best league in the world and their value there has been decimated.

 

I must admit I thought changing to the summer was going to be a regular occurrence, but obviously not.

Teams will still look for the best African talent, but most will again be aware that you can only carry one or two in your squad if they may well disappear for such a long period.

 

It seems it may well adversely affect the career prospects of African players.
Personally, I don't understand how any country has the right to take punitive measures against absentee players. This is a sport, not National Service, and surely the body that pays their wages should have the final say? The players' wishes should be taken into account of course, and many of them may feel it's an honour to represent their country and want to go.
Being wary of nationalism, and only marginally interested in international football, I find it unacceptable to lose key players in the middle of a season.

 

I think the change next year is because of the location - Cameroon - and the poor weather there in June/July.

Is the winning nation the next host? If so let's hope for a winning nation with good weather in June/July.

 

Didnt we have an issue with matip. I'm not 100% sure but didnt he basically retire from international football but couldnt play for us for fear of repercussions.

That surely cant be right, a countries fa shouldn't be able to hold a player hostage.

 

It could effect PL teams interest in African players but it could instead effect African players interest in playing for their country.

Given the choice, I'd much rather play for Liverpool than England. There are bound to be African players that feel the same about the club they are associated too.

 

I believe he said he'd retired but hadn't done it officially so Cameroon activated a clause that meant he couldn't play for a club whilst Cameroon were in a competition. Could be wrong though

 

I'm assuming its something to do with the heat, Algeria won the last one that was held in Egypt. I'm assuming Cameroon is much hotter in the summer?

 

Even if a player is injured they still have to tip up, but I'm wondering what would happen if a player just said no. I seem to remember the matip thing was more liverpool playing it safe than matip following the rules, but it all just seems a bit odd.

The African players seem quite keen, in fact everyone seems keen to play for their respective national teams except for england.

 

It's actually the opposite. June to September is the coldest, windiest and wettest part of the year in that region.

 

Apart from that rain in Africa is usually very heavy and sometime thunderous ,for this reason we can forgive them

 

So its roasting when they want to hold it? Why do they want it in the winter, is it not for weather reasons?

 

Our winter is their summer so yeh they want to hold it in their good weather season and not during the monsoons.

 

My knowledge of the african continents weather patterns is sadly lacking. I assumed it would be to hot.

 

There's no such thing as too hot for African nationals.

 

Not really, they're not in the southern hemisphere. They're just north of the equator, and as such don't have seasons like ours. It's just down to a rainy season and a dry one. I don't think the temperature variations are very extreme and they're more to do with the topography of the country rather than the time of year. Tropical countries are usually hot and dry or hot and wet.
Perhaps they prefer the dry season, as the tropical storms may make playing conditions difficult.

The southern areas of West Africa have two rainy seasons, one lasting from the end of April to mid-July, and another, shorter one in September and October. In the north where there is less rainfall, there is only one rainy season, which lasts from July to September.23 Jul 2019
