Thought he was hung out to dry a bit by Eze. Received the ball often with nobody anywhere near him first half. Tactically inept though just lumping it into the wind. I assume they won the toss and played to knock it in behind to good effect. Until the first goal we looked ok and probably edged it. Their keeper looked dodgy then but feels a long time ago now. The second was an absolute killer. A Lumley masterclass. Looked from 100 yards away like he should have come out to claim the ball for the third.
sadly we are miles away from Brentford. We'll do well to be playing in this division next season. nb we didn't turn up again
Agreed, Eze probably didn't help Manning, but he shouldn't have been playing there. He's not a wide player. Manning is very over rated. Gives the ball away time after time and is defensively terrible. Kane is poor also. Warburton picked the wrong team for this but he'll come out with all the usual bullshit.
Yep agree there Windsor, didn’t give us much except bookings, thought Manning was fouled & instead gave it to them & they scored from that, bit of a prat
I saw the first 10 minutes and the whole of the second half (OK...I understand, it was entirely my fault as the game I saw had us winning 1-0). The wind did dominate the match somewhat, and they knew how to use it However Brentford were miles better than us. There defence was solid without any flashyness. There midfield got it to their forwards very very quickly. The forwards are the best in the division on that showing We were too slow and deliberate, Lumley looked shaky, his bad kick was partially caused by the wind....but he must have played in wind before...and know not to do that!! Kane is good attacking and poor as defending RB, Manning looked rusty. Hall and Cameron looked a disaster, Hall and Masterson were quietly effective Ball went missing, Cameron was awful as CD, but then suddenly he took over the match as DCM...odd. Amos went missing and was harried off the ball too much. Eze had moments but could not be effective Nakhi seemed busy attacking and took his goal well, but lost his man for the first goal (Hugill would have been better there....but can you blame our lone striker for loosing his man at a deadball situation) I thought Chair and BOS played pretty well under the circumstances. Subs: Masterson for Ball with Cameron moving forward changed the match Hugill and Shodipo did nothing. I assume Hugill did not play from the start, as the wind would have precluded too many high balls. Future Kelly in goal for the next match. I would keep Masterson in the team at least until Barbet gets back Rangel should play more. Cameron should play CDM. I would play Scowen as well I would play Hugill at the start and bring Nakhi on later on, not the other way round.
Strange isn't it. It's almost like playing players in their natural positions has some kind of positive effect. Some more research needs to be done into that topic to see if the theory holds up.
A good summary! I watched the match with a time lag so have not been posting. We were well of the pace today and not creating chances (4 shots, 2 on-target, 1 goal). We were fully over-run after the first goal (conceding 3 in 15 minutes) and need some maturity on how to be behave when behind. We were much better in the 2nd half, but today, we were always second best. A bit of a hard landing or “reality check” after the recent successes.
One manager got the tactics right and the other didn't. We have struggled against a high press for years now and today was no exception. I assume Warburton could see that coming given how they turned us over just recently but he still played Wells as a midget lone striker leaving us without any kind of alternative to playing out from the back when the pressure came. He needs to learn that lesson pronto and also forget Cameron as a CB and accept that Lumley has used up all his chances.
Probably one of only a handful of matches where we have been 2nd best...….forgetting scorelines obviously.!!!!!! A pretty inept and naïve performance. Im not going to criticize some of our players for poor performances but Hugill, Pugh and Scowen should have started because it was never going to be about the flair players today and MW should have realised that. I am sorry to say but Lumley has to be rested......the 2nd goal said it all....poor kick yet when the ball was up in the air he had to come for it?!!! it took an age to come down and by not catching it or at least narrowing the angle left him in no mans land.....pathetic. He just does not seem to understand although slim build he is a big fella and goalkeepers are protected and if he had smashed the guy nothing probably would have been given. The third he was nowhere either. Enough is enough as they say. Ref gave us nothing either and Janssons deliberate foul on Wells could easily have been a straight red with VAR...….LOL
yes, just got back from the game. Manning had a bit of a shocker today. Very surprised not to see him off at half time. We're a bit lightweight to be honest, we just looked smaller all over the pitch. Definitely outmuscled in midfield. They were definitely better than us, but for a couple of dodgy refereeing decisions (free kick for the first goal) and some really bad individual bits of defending (Cameron for number 2 I think), I actually think it could have been a lot closer.
we kept lumping it long in the first half.... we're half their size! Why have Eze, Chair and Samuel in the side if you're going to keep wellying the ball into the stratosphere! We need more grit in the middle too.
I hope our dear owners take a long hard look at themselves in the light of today. We last won at Griffin Park in 2003!! Unacceptable. They've now beaten us more than we've beaten them. For years, Bees were a pimple on our bum and now they are contenders for the PL while we are very far from that. If January is lean in terms of transfers there better be a sensible plan for the summer. RTID as ever but completely depressed and pissed off with another debacle of a local derby.
Spot on RTID. It seems that every club is moving forwards bar us. Why didn't we get the bloke that bought Man City? If we had we would be in a different stadium by now with a different outlook.
A stadium full of plastic fans, all wearing dual coloured scarfs, spending most of the game more interested in uploading pictures of themselves to Instagram than actually watching the game - no thanks. I agree, our owners have wasted the opportunity, you only have to look at Leicester and Burnley - both promoted the same year as us, but have been managed prudently with Leicester proving that the impossible sometimes can happen. If, by some miracle, we manage to make it back into the PL, I'd like to think that things will be run differently now that Uncle Tony has taken a back seat - time will tell......
Unless we get in some decent money from player sales it will be pound shop transfers again in the summer The Redcrap player transfer / wages bonanza continues to screw us Bottom line today was that Brentford looked promotion contenders and we didn't
