I also think it would be wrong, but I fear it might happen. Stiepermann was mentioned as a possibility last week. Like you general, I hope Idah gets his chance, but whatever DF says there'll be plenty of pressure out there.
Interesting CS. I think he was actually linked to Liverpool at one point. The figures look good and his defensive prowess for a number 10 is excellent. While not as impressive, his 60.7% completion rate in the final third is reasonable against top level defences. That he scored 11 goals in 32 matches last season is outstanding and would be good for a striker. It looks like he could add a lot to our attack while also defending well.
Medical today, apparently. https://www.footballinsider247.com/...ree-terms-of-deal-after-breakthrough-sources/
It was remarkable to me that Tifo even included him in their analysis. They could have picked anyone. Oops! Just read your post again and realized you said he was once linked with Liverpool. Probably why he was included.
Looks like Aarons will be sold and the Spanish lad takes over LB. Sam Byram moves to RB with Lewis also moving on? Do we have any cover left for either position after Quintilla and Byram? Why do we need the money for Aarons this season? I don’t think any of these possible changes will make a great difference to our survival in PL, so are the changes aimed at next season? Lots of genuine questions.
I think that's a particularly negative interpretation of that article. We currently have 3 full-backs in the squad, this signing would bring us back to a standard compliment of 4. Much like the Heise deal, this appears to be an example of Webber/Farke spotting value in the market with a player who has 6 months on their contract. He's available below his true price, is young, so represents a low risk/high reward opportunity. For this season he'd most likely be cover for the full backs, but it's interesting to note that he played CB for Barcelona B, so perhaps there's one eye on him being emergency cover there too. Whilst there's clear interest in Aarons (less so Lewis?) I think it's highly unlikely that they leave in January. If they do, a loan back to the end of the season probably makes a lot of sense for all parties. Max keeps developing in the Prem, we have continuity + cash. We'd then have 6 months to assess Quintilla and see if we're comfortable him being first choice next season, or whether we still need a first choice full back.
Pretty sure I read a quote from Farke recently ruling out selling Aaron's this window. That's exactly what someone holding out for £30m would come out with though. Selling any of our best players at this stage would be seen by most as throwing in the towel and squandering what little hope of surviving we still cling onto. Palace and Leicester managed to pull off a miracle when they looked dead and buried a few years ago so I would rather strengthen than weaken our thread bare squad. I can't see Farke being too delighted having his players sold and making his job even more impossible after taking us up last season on a shoe string and spending very little in the summer either. Most of us fans are still behind the players coach and board even though we are rock bottom with 1 win in months and the players seem to be fully behind Farke too. It's important not to destroy the special relationship at our club by cashing in on our best players at this stage.
I don't think Aarons or any other player will leave this window. At 19 he's getting loads of experience with us. Byram may well point to his own move to West Ham which backfired big time. The time will come, but not yet. Heise is a strange case. He looked really good on paper but never played a league game. A definite miss for SW and the recruitment team. Xavi Quintilla might be a suitable replacement, but I can't see much to be excited about. Being only 5'10" suggests he would only play CB in an emergency. Looks a possible signing for the Championship to me.
Welcome aboard Andre grab a saucepan and start bailing out like the rest of us. Binned Sheisse and picked up Duda. Confirmed
Hope he can play in defence or up front because our other £13m loan midfielder rarely gets a game and Roberts was paid to watch . Not sure who he will replace but as ever , have faith in our recruitment team.
Well at last we have a natural number 10, which is where he should hopefully play, though he can also play on the flanks. With 11 goals and 6 assists as well as defensive capabilities let's hope he can bring new dimensions on both sides of the ball. Just hope we don't have to wait months to see him play.
Juan Mata? I wondered what he and Farke were talking about after the game. Mata put his hand over his mouth when he spoke to Daniel. Make it happen Stuart! Watch from 10:28. DF is working the MU players like a politician.
I guess the argument would be that his sale price has probably peaked. He's shown he can do it at this level, and January transfer prices are inflated. If we wait until the summer, he could suffer a dramatic loss in form, long-term injury, or teams might feel they can play hardball on price with a relegated side. I don't think it'll happen, but if we could lock in a £30m+ sale price and have him play the rest of the season, I could see the temptation.
I agree, as long as we use some of the money now to strengthen the team for this and future seasons and to raise morale.
Rumour from one of the more reliable "ITK" twitter accounts that a permament signing is imminent. No clue as to who!
