My wife started doing one, on her side and mine. She thinks that my paternal grandfather may have been a bigamist, based on what she found. Nothing was ever said to my dad about this to spare his feelings, and to prevent any falling out.
We have traced back from the USA to Exeter in the 1600’s. I never had much appreciation for it when I was young but I do want to spend a fair amount of time on my ancestry when I retire.
Current Mrs Rorschach found out her great grandmother was the village bike, and had 5 kids by 3 different blokes, wasn't married to any of them. She's a bit embarrassed and of course I found it hilarious
Welcome back Fats. When I saw the article originally, I thought of you as you'd been telling people this for ages.
Yes, I read this article late last night. I'm bound to say that the view isn't new, in the respect that all serious practical books that weigh the balance of pollution and CO2 emissions, like There Is No Planet B [which I urge everyone to read] advocate a reduction of plastic use, where best to do, and to reuse and recycle properly where plastic is still obviously the best option. But we are in a transition. Transport will get become cleaner as it and the power grid goes entirely fossil free. And as inhabitants of this environment, we need to improve drastically, in terms of the impact we make by our lack of thought and poor living habits. But there really needs to be an end of single use plastic, or the plastic that currently passes for single use. Because it stays in the environment and does not break down fast enough or at all. At present, plastics producers need to put some flavouring in the product because, with our present practice, we'll just end up eating it. [that's meant to be an illustrative joke]
Just spoken to him...I told him as much as we miss him, come back when we are in the Champions League places in a few weeks
Think I've mentioned before that the average American in the USA is way worse off than pretty much all of average European citizens, despite the USA being the richest country in the world per capita. Problem is, the riches are in the hands of the extremely few. Whereas in Europe, it is far better spread. So if you think it is bad in the UK, just imagine how bad it can be in the USA. And the USA doesn't deal kindly with its poor. If you go down in the USA, the chances are you stay down, because there's not much to help you. The UK wants to go in that direction:
I see we have another thread that is not only off topic but stickied to the front page (4out of 6 stickies are off topic). Is this really necessary on a football forum? There are two other threads on this board plus a general chat thread where it could have gone without creating another. Is this the way things are going now? Anything that upsets you is ok for a new thread whether it's football related or not? I'm quite passionate about gardening, we could use this board to lead the way as an example to other boards. Gardening affects us all, the planet needs food, it's very important. We should have the gardening thread stickied and then one on fishing and then another on cooking, I'm sure we can all think of some more. It doesn't really matter whether people come here to read about football, it's what I want that's important, right? Eventually we could drop the football side of things and use the forum for our latest obsession. As I've said before "**** football it's more important than that, I don't even like football".
Thinking exactly the same. The first thing you see now is more off topic threads than football threads.
There is one thing though. By being a football forum you're never going to be short of people wanting something to say. So football threads hardly ever need to be stickied.
If an off topic thread is popular enough to warrant consistent discussion, then that doesn't need to be stocked as well!
This is first and foremost a football forum. Discuss other matters all you wish but we already have an off topic and politics thread for that. And there are other forums to dicuss non football matters.
I'm sort of with the guys/gals on this one. I think the only stickied threads on what is primarily a football forum should be the official off topic, the current match day and the prediction league. The idea of a thread stuck on the top is that you come to the forum and find those threads first. All others (probably including the Politics thread) should just be left to their own devices. A good example of that is the Saints Stuff thread. Just my 2p worth.
