Strictly talking about the in front of goals bit... it’s not a fair reflection to talk about how many goals a striker scores... it’s about their conversion rate.

xg isn’t perfect but it’s the best stat available - bamford is quite a bit below average this year.

what this can’t measure is how many he creates himself by making the right run and being in the right place... would another striker have had more chances/less chances? Very hard to say.

what you can say is he plays in a team that creates more opportunities than any other in the championship so he ought to be right up there with the leading scorers.

so whilst I appreciate what he does for the team and can see the value of him... all this ‘he plays a loan striker it’s harder’, ‘he’s had a good return’ etc... it’s all smoke and mirrors. Statistically he doesn’t convert the chances he gets as well as a host of other strikers.

    Based on this season:
excellent all round game. Poor finisher

If you look at this list of championship top scorers. If you click on the names and scroll down, it shows you goals and then expected goals in brackets.

Every striker above bamford on the list has a scored more than expected. Bamford significantly less. In fact his goals v x goals is worse than every striker on the list.

    don’t shoot the messenger

Not that bothered about how many goals Bamford has scored, only Leeds winning and table position. QPR have 2 players above Bamford in the goal scoring table but they are 15th in the league. Know which I prefer.

How many of these strikers above Bamford play up top on their own?

How many of these strikers above Bamford that play up top on their own could match Bamford's contribution to Bielsaball?

    Exactly .....

And there you have it...in a nutshell.

But the moaning minnies just can't help themselves.

Doesn't matter if Bamford scores a hat-trick tomorrow, they'll just quckly find another player to castigate. The criticism that some of the players receive is nothing short of diabolical.

Very few on here wanted to continue with Bamford earlier in the season...it was all Eddie, Eddie, Eddie, the great hope, who was all reputation but nothing proven as yet. Throw your best striker out, bench him, bin him, destroy his confidence, doesn't matter we're top of the leaugue...we want more, we want better.

    Dumb, dumb, dumb.

It was Jenkins that pulled the deal at the last second.

All this judging players by modern statistical data is all a bit of a nonsense really. Nice to look at, gives you something to talk about and maybe backs up an opinion or two but ultimately flawed.

There is only one surefire way to judge a player and that's to get off your arse and go watch him in the flesh on a match day. The eyes are the best tools we have and they don't deceive unless those preconceptions and prejudices are willing you to do so.

If Leeds had wanted to complete the deal early January, they could have.

Who wants someone at their club who doesn't want to be there?

YOU WANT THAT PERSON OFF YOUR BOOKS asap so to get rid of the negativity.

Did Jenkins eventually block the deal - yes, but only at the 11th hour.

Had he tried blocking the deal earlier in the month SCFC would have outvoted Jenkins and pushed the deal thru

Why would we stand when we have padded seats and extra legroom ?

Bit like booking a 1st class ticket (on an airline) and then standing in the galley for the whole flight like those in economy.

Have been known to stand up if we score though :emoticon-0136-giggl:emoticon-0136-giggl:emoticon-0136-giggl

Bamford is our first line of defence at corners. He's blocked numerous balls coming into the box and we've all seen what happens once they do get into the box. Chaos. Eddie is shorter than Bamford and was not as effective at defending the near post. So while he may not be the most prolific in front of goal I reckon he has saved us from conceding quite a few.

Agreed, and who's to say James wasn't plan c and the other players we were after all fell through while being negotiated behind the scenes.

How about you read the first sentence, that refers to the strictly talking about the in front of goals bit. Whether he plays up front on his own, in a 2, in a 3 in a 10 is irrlelevant to whether he takes his share of chances or not.

I'm not anti-bamford as my posting history will testify.

I'm picking up on people saying his goals return is good.

It isn't for the chances created which is what the stats show
