Genuinely interested as to why you support City as you spend a lot of time and money travelling to support them. For which you deserve great credit. Do you have family connections to Hull? My family is from Leeds but I support City because I was born in East Yorkshire and City are the only East Yorkshire club. Glad to say my tow lads follow the same path despite City being at their lowest when I started taking them and being surrounded by kids who supported the usual few top sides at school. The fact they chose to do so and weren’t pressurised into it by myself has been consolation down the years when other things they have done down the years have driven me to distraction and made me doubt my parenting skills.
I know three Chelsea fans in Brid, all of who started supporting Chelsea for different reasons, none of which were to do with success on the pitch. They used to travel all over when Chelsea were doing crap. Then, as is often the case, when they started doing well couldn’t get tickets for away games especially.
My family moved a lot when I was young due to my father's job, and we lived for four years near Hull. My son, born in Middlesbrough and raised in London and Middlesbrough, supports City so I share your pride in that unlikely achievement!
I think it only really applies to people who choose to support a big and successful club for some kind of reflected glory. I don't think that could really be applied to you.
I work with two Arsenal fans, they're brothers. They have the shirts, they have the Arsenal coffee mug, they love Arsenal. They've never been to the Emirates, they've never been to Highbury and even when Arsenal came to them (Hull) they didn't go. Funny thing is, I've known them years, we're really good mates. They're not thick ****s, they're really good at their job. And yes we've had our arguments, me saying Wtf lads etc. They know I'm right and all that but all they've ever said is "Well because I always did". Like I've said though, there's no getting away from the fact, they're really good lads. The ****s them...
But that ‘Hull FC/Hull KR and anyone but City’ seems quite prevalent unfortunately, I’ve come across it a few times
I remember them well, I would occasionally get the train to London with them when City was playing away.
That's them, all are City first, Chelsea was just an added lads adventure, they weren't even a top side in the 80's, the Hull lads knew the original headhunters and appeared on a few famous photos with Hickey's Chelsea mob at an England game, had occasional clashes with Selby whites on trains back I think.
After beating Utd in the second leg of the League Cup when Silva took over, Chelski are now the only team I can think of that we’ve played more than once that we haven’t beaten since I’ve been supporting us! Let’s hope, the unlikely happens!
I’m not sure I’d agree that they are all City first, though they would turn out occasionally for big games.
They all rioted at the Luxembourg game. The next game was in Poland. The game was switched to Katowice, a really rough mining town. Poland was still under communist rule then. Their chief copper announced that any troublemakers would be harshly dealt with. Those left standing after the miners had finished with them. Strangely enough there was distinct lack of England fans there. Though visas in those days to get into theSoviet bloc made it difficult. I know a couple of faces on there. please log in to view this image
Went to the game at Chelsea in 66. Ended up in a pub later on; Venables, Tambling and Graham were there with others. Said they got lucky. We all agreed.
My memory is not what it was so, can any of the' older hands' on here remember what year it was that Chelsea's team bus had a wine bottle 'deposited' through one of its windows on their way out of Hull? The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
Yes the 82 night match at BP, Chelsea fans were banned from travelling but a mob came and got in South Stand seats, battle on North Road after the game.
