Good Morning. It's Wednesday 8th January, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road.

Leeds swoop under the Canaries radar to capture Chievo Youth Ace

Leeds are set to sign Chievo goalkeeper Elia Caprile, under the noses of Norwich City.

According to L’Arena, the deal is virtually done to bring the youngster, who only has a youth deal at the Serie B club to Elland Road.

The Italian media outlet also claim that Bielsa “has already made him a place in the Under23's.”

Caprile is 18yo and 6 foot 3 and a Scottish youth International.

The move to bring Caprile to Elland Road is a change of tact from the Leeds hierarchy. They were looking at a more established keeper but following Meslier's display against the Gunners on Monday night, they have complete faith in the French U20 International should Casilla receive the long awaited ban!

Klopp closes door on Jones pursuit

Leeds have had a loan bid turned down for Liverpool's attacking midfielder Curtis Jones.

Having conceded defeat in the pursuit of Rhian Brewster who will be heading to the Liberty Stadium, Bielsa has turned his attention to Jones.

The England U19 International, although versatile, plays predominantly as a midfielder.

Unfortunately for the Whites, recent performances has led Jurgen Klopp to close the door on any possible loan deal as the 18yo could have a big role to play in the second half of the Reds season.

Meanwhile, the Daily Star are reporting that Leeds have their sights set on Chelsea full back Reece James.
Whilst this would be fantastic signing for the Whites, the two clubs fell out with each other over the lack of game time for Izzy Brown, Kamal Blackman and Lewis Baker.

Durham - Phillips - the player Granit Xhaka probably dreams of being

Controversial Soccer journalist Adrian Durham has paid huge kudos to Kalvin Phillips after Monday night’s FA Cup clash and said he’s “the player Granit Xhaka probably dreams of being”.

Talking on his Drive Time slot on Talk Sport, the veteran journalist said the following:-

“There was a Leeds midfielder who outshone everyone on Monday night, Kalvin Phillips. He’s the player Granit Xhaka probably dreams of being,”

“Ozil was trying to keep track of him but couldn’t get near him… I’d be amazed, if Leeds were to mess up and not go up, he’ll be a Premier League player next season. I think he could play in one of the top teams.”

Meanwhile, fellow Talk Sport pundit Ian 'the Moose' Abraham believes Leeds will have to invest heavily in the Summer if they go up

"I don't think they are a Wolves or a Sheffield United," "I think they are going to have to invest quite heavily.

"Ben White at the back is a really good player but he is on loan from Brighton. There is no way that Brighton are going to let Ben White go. I would absolutely be staggered if they sold him.

"Kalvin Phillips is a terrific player as well. They do need a goalscorer. Eddie Nketiah barely got a game whilst on loan to be fair.

"Sheffield United had to invest £45m and Leeds United will have to do something similar. Their squad is not big.

"But they have got to get promoted first after running out of puff last season. They are good to go up and be in the Premier League, though."

Quite a few were raving over Phillips after the Arsenal game including Arsenal and Man U fans. Quite a few on Twitter were hoping they’d have a chance of signing him.

I read yesterday Pablo is back in training that’s a positive. I wish we’d get this striker pursuit over and done with, I do fear an injury to Bamford now.

You know its transfer window when the red tops link us to every Liverpool prospect

The Italian/Scottish keeper I had heard about a few days ago and that was well before the Meslier performance. lets face it Bielsa trusts Meslier to take over from Kiko and the lad proved he could, but we were looking at keeper options in Europe as crazy prices in the UK. WJ and I mentioned yesterday that it looks like we will be moving out at least one keeper and maybe this month. Could be loaned, released or sold? We have Huffer coming back from a long term injury, Harrison male who we released and then brought back when BPF left, We have Kiko, Meslier, Miazek, Huffer, Turner, Skerry and Male. There will be others inside the academy but 1st team Kiko, Meslier & Miazek. U23s Meslier, Miazek, Huffer, U18s Turner, Male and Skerry. So it could be Kiko leaving in the Summer, or Miazek being sold, Huffer released, male released again or Turner being released? but something is afoot

For me if we fail to go up this season then the best thing to happen would be Radz sells immediately to a QSI type group and a statement made that no players are for sale and a few top new signings will be coming in to ensure promotion next season. Otherwise we all know we sell anyone worth cash and Bielsa leaves and we end up fighting for mid table again

I know it is only 8th Jan but I do find it frustrating that we always seem to faff about when it comes to transfers. The powers that be must have realised that Eddie was going to be recalled and that we would be left with no backup to Barndoor bambi. Brewster was rumoured to be on our wanted list and yet somehow Swansea have beaten us to his signature. I just hope something gets sorted sooner rather than later.

As I said in another tread, I think it will be difficult for us to lend any players. Clubs want their players to play game that is why they are sent out on loan. But Bielsa don’t usually use them, the only exception is Ben With.

So if we are going to get any players in, we have to bye them or lend players from abroad.

 

I think Brewster went to Swanseay and not to us because we have gotten a tag that says we don’t play players we have lend much

 

No, I’d sell no one this window.

 

I would only sell those players that are on our books but not in Leeds, that would be those we have forgotten all about.

If we would sell any players in Jan that we want or need like Phillips then we would have needed to have other players lined up ready to come. It most have been something that had been planned in advance.

 

Might get 40 mill for Phillips but we get 150 mill and a probable billionaire investor if we go up.

Keep him and this is our last chance for a few seasons so for our own sake and sanity get out there and try and strengthen.

January is a time for inflated transfer fees and hardest to bring in and offload players. Its a window nobody wants but under performing teams are forced into or events like injury or loan players going back.

Bielsa and the club will not guarantee any loan player a starting birth, that has to be earned and exactly why Leeds told Klopp they would have to send Brewster elsewhere. Bielsa will not sanction any deal for any player who will not improve his squad so makes no difference how loud some fans become, if a player isnt available or over priced they wont be coming.

Bielsa has said a keeper and a winger and a striker are are priorities. Hearing the winger and keeper are identified and almost over the line. Adams apparently is still a thing but because Saints have messed around we are looking at 2 more options? Smythy in the YEP has also confirmed this today

birmingham who were docked 9 points last season are still in breach and under investigation again, which means they will be selling players?

FFFP rules are deffo a thing this season and probably why we will not see anyone in the play off final who cheated like last season and why this transfer window will be slow for everyone. Dwight Gayle needs to be sold according to Newcastle and at £15m but loaned as a last resort but the club loaning him needs to stump up all his £50pwk wages. Jack Clarke to Milwall?

 

apparently Spurs offered Jack Clarke to Millwall while Harris was still in charge as they wanted him to remain in London and Millwall did wonders for the development of Kane and Townsend, the fact that this rumour has resurfaced would mean Rowett is also interested, wages would be a issue if we don’t cash in on Jed Wallace.

WJ I did not criticise Bamford work rate I just think he is probably the worst header of a ball for a striker.If he could head he would have 20 goals already
