It’s not exactly a state secret that the vast majority of our players are on 30% of that. What does Tom Lockyer’s agent then advise his client....or Bonne’s .....or Dillon’s ....

Bowyer will have to tell Southall what players he wants to keep to build his team around, and they will have to be paid according to what they are now worth. For instance Bonne has improved from a proven non-league striker to a Championship striker, Phillips is now an established Championship goalie, Lockyer and Williams are established internationals now. If we are to attract players of that calibre right now the whole wage structure will have to change.

True enough, but if he's being offered 20k plus elsewhere, given his age he may feel 4k extra per week is worth moving for. The fact is we are now in the Championship, and the players are going to want to be paid accordingly, whether or not we pay Taylor what he wants.

As an aside, on another thread there is a list of all the strikers we have signed in the last twenty odd years who have failed to make the cut - it's most of them. Taylor knows where the net is, but is also all over the park breaking up play, and providing outlets for the ball. For some reason there is a fixation on the Peterbro lad, Toney. We have no idea whether he will slot in, or score goals in the Championship, but to get him out of his current club will cost a big fee, and a contract to match what we expect he can do. I'm a bit surprised that this 'bird in the bush is much better than the one in hand' attitude is so current among Charlton fans, given the likes of Simon Church, that lad from Swindon, and so many other failures in a strikers shirt, but hey ho. I quote from the moderator below:

For every one Shaun Bartlett we have had ten Simon Makienoks, or Pawel Abbots, or Akpo Sodjes…

How many really good players have Charlton signed since 2014?

Two I reckon. Neither one a forward.
Johann Berg Gudmundsson and Patrick Bauer.
We've had some half decent players, including Taylor. But JBG and BFG the only two of real quality for me.

    And that includes the Nabster.
His entertainment value was not wholly football related <whistle>

Does that include loans @lardiman ? Because Cullen, Gallagher are excellent signings. Williams is up there.

Josh Cullen is just about on the edge of qualifying in my opinion.

If he was recalled by West Ham and did not play for us again, I wouldf have to say that he never quite fulfilled his potential for us, even though he did very well. I would put him in a category of 'very good' Charlton players with the likes of Ademola Lookman, Ricky Holmes (in the 2016-17 season) and a couple more of the pre-relegation players from season 2014-15.
Pretty much the same for Williams.
Gallagher too, though I think he has a bit further to go than Cullen or Williams.

Both Cullen and Williams will become great Charlton signings for me (on a par with JBG and the BFG) when/if they give us just a bit more than they already have - such as help us climb out of trouble between now and the end of the season.

Obviously I'm hoping we sign Cullen on a permanent deal. He could become an all-time great Charlton player.
And that deal would be a massive coup for ESI - something to really back up the good words heard so far.

We're not the same team without Cullen. Watch our results improve when he's back.

Disagree on Williams, too injury prone.

I'd say he was good in L1, not so good in the Championship.

I would have agreed with you at the start of the season but I think Bonne has come on in leaps and bounds.... and he's not finished developing yet
