Yes, I can picture it now. Cantwell in his advanced years, with his grandchildren at Carrow Road. "When I were a lad, this stadium held 27 000. Look at it now, look at it now!"

Schalke's current first choice goalkeeper Nubel has agreed to a free transfer to Bayern Munich in the summer. Presumably more motivation for Fahrmann to buckle down and try and stay sharp.

We'll probably get some complete random who none of us have ever heard of.

Have to agree with DH. If we sell now, we know it’s a decent price and will fund improving the stadium, team, etc.

Previously it’s felt like we’re selling because we’re forced to.

Southampton have been a fixture of the PL for nearly a decade because they specialised in exactly that - identifying talent, bringing them on and selling them at a profit. The sale is inevitable and beneficial.

That’s why I think most of us (well me certainly) still looks fondly at how Maddison is doing. Whereas the others like Snodgrass etc I couldn’t care less because while they served a purpose at their point at Norwich, their sale didn’t help us.

I see Norwich’s long term prospects being built upon successfully bringing through an academy player roughly every other year and an astute acquisition (like Buendia) each season. That would add something like 50% to the club’s turnover and I believe that’s the intention. It would also make us a seriously competitive mid-level PL team over the next few years.

On that basis I would be happy for us to sell ONE of Aarons or Cantwell this January, but purely on the basis we get in a couple of replacements which are investments for next season (e.g. a young Championship centre back willing to risk only half a season in the Premier). I don’t think we can really sell anyone else because we don’t have enough cover as it is.

Looking at it from the point of view of the youngsters for a moment, I don't envy them having to make key choices about their future. I just hope they make good decisions. I am not sure leaving us to join someone like Palace or Burnley would be a good move in the long term, while going to one of the really big teams to sit on the bench might be good for the bank balance but not for much else. Maddison was very smart in choosing Leicester, a team who wanted to do more than finish twelfth every year but not so full of superstars that he would end up in a dead-end where he wasn't being used. But there are not many clubs like Leicester. Everton, perhaps? Arsenal and Spurs at this point in their history?

I agree they'll definitely have learned from the example Maddison set - go somewhere that suits you, and you'll play.

Aarons will probably have the most options within reasonably established Prem sides. He'd fit at Wolves, Everton, Spurs quite easily. But there's absolutely no point him joining a team with defensive full backs like Burnley or Palace.

Equally, hopefully the players feel they owe the club something and don't agitate for a move or act up if it doesn't happen. Webber puts great importance on recruiting good characters, hopefully there's some benefits to be realised there.

Cantwell for example is someone I could imagine being persuaded to stay, akin to Grealish at Villa. Cantwell has clearly broken through and is capable at the bottom end of the Prem. But he could remain with the club, dominate in the championship and really live up to being "Hoolahan's heir", then move up to the Prem with or without Norwich the season after. Grealish is clearly a much better player for the experience of that full championship season, Cantwell would be too.

The young lads seem like a close knit group hopefully that might encourage them to stick together, at least until the end of this season

I would love Rhodes back but think that the money doesn't fit in with our budgets, plus the time away from CR has now been several months and the linkage is not quite there like it was.

I wouldn't really want Rhodes, no immediate impact, for me a player who will want too much for sitting on the bench. The biggest plus though, is that he seemed content to sit on the bench, you need players like that.

I don't see that scenario as inconceivable (Though I don't think Hernandez has impressed enough for anyone to be determined enough to pay enough given a long term contract here means we can ask for the earth) All of them improbable. But every one of those players I can imagine being courted. Each one by a PL club who can pay them well beyond our means. Once one or two go, the why not me? could set in. But would it be a dissaster? Next season we could start with the spine of a potentially very useful side:

    Krul
    Byram
Hanley, Klose and Zimmermann (I'd be nervous about losing him too if his link with Farke wasn't so strong)
    Tettey, Trybull, Vrancic, Lietner, McLean
    Drmic, Idah

I'm not sure how many youngster apart from Idah might be ready/nearly ready to make the step up, but for the championship, it is a smaller step. Couple that with my trust in Webber in the transfer market and the players added coupled with the players we should surely still have and I think we will once again be competitive.

We are a selling club and I genuinely can't see us keeping players who agitate for leaving if the money is in the right ball park for us. Same as I can't see any great loyalty from those players if the right oportunity comes along, whether that be; purely financial, to keep playing PL and financial, playing PL because they believe it better for their development and career aspirations and financially. we have a real job on to keep as many as possible.

With this scenario, the key is what we then spend. We could afford anyone we wanted in transfer fees, but the wages will limit our ambition. For highend Champ wages and big potential bonuses, I think we could again get some good players from the continent. we'll just have to be careful about that homegrown rule.

    Bah!

Rhodes on loan until end of season with an option to buy would make a lot of sense to me.

As with any of these deals the terms would be the deciding factor coupled with our existing options fitness prospects. I don't see the Wendies wanting to loan him out for the last 6months of his contract and with his contract ending there would be no need to have buy option. He has played recently, so with the Wendies 8th and in a good position to challenge for promotion I can only see a sale apealing to them. Again for us that only makes sense if the terms are right.
Is he the right player for our system? especially with another halfplayed season in his legs. I'm far from convinced.
He isn't going to keep us up or even add to the chances in the PL. I'd rather see us make an ambitious move for someone who fits our strategy now or in the summer and for the time being use one of our freed up loans to try to get someone potentially better and more suitable.

    Bah!
