Nope we turned down the chance to sign him long before... we decided against it.. should have tied that up
he literally left as soon as Rafa left and said the club couldn't match his terms. then he went to china for £8 million a year. it was pretty well discussed that both rafa and rondon were requesting very high wage packages. likely being spoken to by the chinese before the season was done.
We had the option it was in the deal mate.. its well known You dont like rafa but stick to the comparisons ... dont start worming away for other get outs
we had the option to make an offer, we failed to reach terms Rondon wasn't being offered pennies he was being offered what all our premier league players are offered. he left for china as rafa asked him to go, and took £8 million a year. the best option was to keep the younger player we had and use that world class champions league coaching staff to develop him. instead of bottle jobbing it and signing a short term option.
Well there might be an influx of footballers heading back to the premier league gravy train soon. Looks like the type of deal Big Mike goes for, former big name available for a snip after going through tough times, it's his retail MO, perhaps it's time he applied it to the football side. https://www.sportbible.com/football...cides-for-wage-cap-for-new-contracts-20191227
We didnt make an offer because we didnt want to sign him ... why is this so hard to grasp my good friend lol We could and should have signed him... wages would not have been an issue .. if we wanted him we could have tied it up well before they came in for him ...after rafa left
lol we didn't want to sign him, we argued with west brom the entire summer previously to sign him. they wanted £16.5 mill for a 30 year old with a goal in 1 in four games. then they suggested £20 million + at the end of the season. suggesting we didn't want him is different than us not affording him. rondon also was west broms highest paid player, as proven by his £8 million wage demands in china. once again, it was a terrible bit of business, West brom were trying to literally rob us.
But if we could get Oscar, Hulk, etc, for a 12 month deal - the PR side would cover a big chunk of the wage. I'm guessing a lot would be free transters too. Not saying it would happen, but just one player like that would be huge for us both on and off the pitch.
Steve Nickson - we are cursed with Steve's - was "Head of Youth Recruitment" for years, but only arrived at the club under Ashley (2011). In that period, 6 years, he recruited precisely ZERO players who have gone on to the first team. He's now been promoted to overall head of recruitment and has overseen the arrivals of Murphy, Muto, Joelinton to name just three. What. The. ****. Is. Going. On.
Ashley didnnt want to pay simple as that... deemed to old to have potential sell on value... i usually see you as being quite bright, but today I am a little concerned.
Ashley has only interest in buying and selling on , so old is no good.. the other thing is cheao crap to fill a hole.
you're an utter ****, and I don't like you at all. but apart from once again a personal remark because you're a twat, you're missing the point again, the entire debacle is not if we should have tossed cash at Rondon it's that we should never have been in a position were signing a 30 year old for £20 million was the best option. we should have improved on what we had, instead of again letting go of a decent prospect for a short term option. as a self proclaimed genius, your inability to see how that's a bad business move is staggering honestly.
Yep Schar, Fernandez, Dubgoalie, Merino, Rondon, lejeune, and Ritchie to name but some of Rafa’s signings all failures. Rafa like all managers has had good and bad signings. All managers signings for us have to be read with the caveat of the system we have in place curtesy of Ashley.
@Wor Welshie and why are you changing the goal posts? All i said was we should have signed rondon. Have you been sipping back on grandpas old cough medicine again? For what its worth i always liked you
Most people dont understand the basic concept behind signings and of course then get things muddled.. they provide a list of targets and god knows the truths they get back and what preferences they had over whay they get, so its what the performances, results and sqaud /player management that should be judged .
Rondon once he got his match fitness together was a really good all round CF. Considering we dropped 40mill on Joelinton we may as well signed him and doubled his wages and we'd be getting 10x the return on investment.
