Sounds very much like he really doesn't want to leave - if it ends up costing him £3/5/10m less than he wants so be it - loves the challenge
In my exit - Ellis did right thing - he did what he thought was best - when I did deal with American guys it wasn't financial. Asked if club has always been up for sale - seems to disagree - Sounds gutted to be cutting ties with us. Wants to stay and be able to go to games. And what I need to do for that to happen is conclude the sale as quickly as I can but they need to understand it's not always quick and it will take a month or two.
Anyone else just feel like this could be a case of “careful what you wish for”? God help us if the likes of Mark Campbell come back in.
Without a doubt this is my opinion. The average fan won't have a clue of the size of the mess he had to sort out. I never bought the talk of him being a chancer and a charlatan. He sounds gutted in this interview.
Hope I’m wrong like but had this nagging feeling from the minute the knives came out. He does sound genuinely gutted mind.
Hasn’t used a penny of The loan but then says the loan has been used to pay some of the parachute payments back???
Interesting interview and I think he is doing his best for the club, we should get behind him imo. He is looking to sell up not because he wants to go, but because of the fans turning against him. The club in his view is going the right way and has no debts, the 10m investment has not been touched and could be returned if a new buyer comes in.
Well that's that. FPP are very unlikely to come in now and he has more or less ruled them out. They were never interested in a majority takeover and never made a bid for the club. He denied this quite categorically which was interesting. He says that they are 3,000 miles away and invest in management teams, rather than in just entities on financial principle. Whoever was looking to buy us in the summer now comes back to the table and he may take a few months to evaluate his offers and make the best choice for the club. He did mention that the FPP loan would be paid back when he sold the club to someone else. He was quite certain with his wording about 'when' rather than if, although I thought quite often his tone belied someone who would like to win the fans round. He's prepared to take a bit of a financial hit and that was never his sole motivation. No idea what this means in practice for the bids that were made. He said that the original bid that he was 'close to concluding' in the summer was worth more than the FPP investment (which was only $12m) so that makes it anywhere from... £10m upwards. All in all he sounded a little bit like he was setting us up for a potential stay if January goes well. He seems to be in a bit of a fantasy world where he's doing a bloody amazing job. Quite blown away by all that. That's the clearest he's been.
Let’s not forget the past few months where we found out he takes these opportunities to tell us all lies. Let’s take what he has said tonight with a pinch of salt
I don't know what more you need to hear mate. He's just said they never made a bid, they aren't really interested if he's not there, and that he'll be going back to the people he nearly sold to before them. I don't know how many times I need to say it, but the things they did over the negotiations process were entirely normal for any size of investment and were not indicative that they were definitively going to invest or not. They are literally the things you do to protect yourself from making bad decisions.
Sorry but I'm not convinced. I know its been mentioned numerous times but if FPP was only an investment - I can't understand why Roker Report and A Love Supreme were told something different for both fanzines to say it was a takeover. Just my opinion but something doesn't add up
From what he said there, I think the crossed wires are easy to understand. People just aren't au fait with how this stuff works and it's amazing how quickly investment becomes a takeover in peoples' minds. Especially for someone like Donald who isn't particularly careful with his words. Lads, we need to get our heads out of the sand here. He literally said that if FPP were interested in buying us, they'd have already done so.
